I've been 13,000 miles in mine, so far, mostly at 70-75 mph on the highway, and have been impressed with the Yaris' *resistance* to paint chipping. And regardless of what one might think of the claims of UA made against other Toyota models, the Yaris is not in any way involved. (No one cares about us. It's the Prius and Prius owners that are hated by certain segment of society.)

I hope that the trucking company at least is considered liable for this. I travel on the highway a lot. And consider what the trucking companies get away with. You run over large chunks of truck tire on the Interstate, and get a scratch on the rocker panel, or a bent exhaust shield, or swerve to avoid one and end up in an accident... and whoever was truly responsible is unknown, and thus untouchable. (There should be VIN numbers stamped on those tire chunks.) A truck with inadequate or broken splash guards kicks up a rock and cracks your windshield. When's the last time anyone got a settlement out of the party which was truly responsible?

Insurance companies don't go after them, because they insure the trucks for liability. It would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. But why should *we* be paying higher premiums for *comprehensive* to counter the trucking companies lack of any real *liability*? They should either pay higher liability premiums to cover the liability or (gasp!) not run their tires until they blow up all over the road.

Truck operators should be liable for the huge amount of damage they do every day. But instead, they get subsidies from the US government to continue the mayhem.

A truck carrying boulders through Derbyshire Peak District in the UK accidentally dropped one onto an unsuspecting Yaris. Luckily no one was injured and thankfully this Toyota won't be doing any unintended acceleration.
