Back in April 2009, I mentioned in my blog (http://www.viosturbo.com/2009/04/toyota-vios-turbo.html) that Jun Auto's president Junichi Tanaka and Chief Engineer Keiichi Hatanaka paid a visit to my tuner while they were fixing my turbo kit.
Right after they finished snapping pictures of my car, they told us that once they get back to Japan they will start the R&D effort of forged internals for the 1NZ-FE engine.
Well, they weren't kidding when they said that. 5 days ago they have just released their I-beam connecting rods for the 1NZ-FE engine as promised.
Check out their link here (http://www.junauto.co.jp/news/index-e.html?000124).
Hurrayyyyyyyyyy!!

104,000.00 JPY = 1,118.04 USD
ouch. They can't be that much better than Pauter or Crower.
this form has no futility.

Im glad that they produced a part for the 1NZ. Just to let you know Crower & Pauter have rods on the shelf right now for $300 less. If you could speak to them, have them make a set of cams for turbo & N/A. No one has that.

well, its not official yet but we're sending over a couple of blank cams for them to R&D and try out.
i can't fire up my engine yet so we're not able to try out the regrind cams i have here with me :(
but knowing their style, its gonna take them quite a bit of time to come back. heck, they literally took 1 year to come out with the rods. so i won't be surprised with the cams either.

Yeah. I found the link a couple days ago too, and was turned off right away by the price. That's insane.

LOL. Seriously? Why is import stuff so ridiculous? I can get a whole stroker kit for a chevy v8 for what heads/cam cost for this damned thing.

Hey I am GLAD they took the time to R&D and make a product for us. Choices are always good.
But I think they did not research the USA marketplace. Maybe these will sell really well in Japan, they have a whole Cup series for the Yaris.

I agree with you Garm, one thing about those Japanese fellas is that they always think JDM first before considering worldwide market :(
Back then when we asked JUN why it took them so long to only start noticing the 1NZ-FE, their answer was this:
"Oohh Chew Soon san, the conrod for your engine is soooOOO thin!, its very the dangerouss!"
Well, that was right after we showed them the toothpick thin stock rods of 1NZ-FE. Can you blame them?
I'll show them the Crower rods the next time they come visiting.
Had to notch the block to fit them in. Did you need to do that as well Garm?

I like how companies coming directly from overseas can produce products like this. But is the metal really to spec as they say it is?
We order exhausts and rods and whatnot from China, yet they say they are Stainless Steal 30* or whatever it is, but what we get is some crappy piping coated in chrome paint hahaha, but whatever! welds are good and it works well for 1/4 the price, even less in some cases
Same thing applies to the rods we get. They are forged and hold past 600hp, weigh the same as competitors rod and are built to spec. They work! and work well! but are only a fraction of the cost compared to the ones on the market. And I do mean a fraction....
These engines are only worth $50 at junkyards ($250 used from some place reputable), why the need to pay $1000+ for internals? amiright?
Not saying more choices are bad, but jesus H, its an econobox for a reason.
