2000 model CDX Yaris - Heavy/Stiff power steering

I have a 1.3 X reg yaris and i recently the steering has become heavy and difficult. When trying to turn the wheel after starting the engine the steering whell feels very heavy and doesnt move smoothly. It feels like its sticking.

Any ideas what this problem is????
