Metal on metal rotating wheel noise

My yaris is making a rotating metal on metal noise and it is coming from the front drivers side wheel. It's not the brakes ...the rotating metal on metal noise remains when the brakes are pressed. The pads and rotors are just fine with lots of pad left. My best guess is bad bearing however we are traveling and even after all these miles the hub is cool to the touch and there is no movement when I shake tire hard *Could it be anything else but the bearing? The rotating metal noise is terrible! Please help*

Have you rotated the wheels while up on a jack to listen for scraping?

Could be the shield mounted on the inside of the front rotars has been bent.

Jack up each side and rotate the wheel. Feel for any "crunchyness" in the wheel when its rotated. Grab the wheel and feel for play up and down mostly and some side to side. Any movement that is abnormal would indicate a bearing. You may have hit a very large pothole and its taken its tole.

That is most likely what it is. It happened to me a while back when a place I took it to have break work done didn't put the shield back in properly. They just bent it back and it has been fine ever since.

or

It can be a bearing (easy to replace)

Or

Could be scrapers/metal in brake system.

This guy ran over a mattress and decided to keep going. The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank, the subsequent lack of fuel is what finally brought this vehicle to its knees.

It had still managed to drive 30 more miles decently with a 60lb tangle wrapped around the driveshaft.

This genius complained that the vehicle had a "shimmy" when driving it high speeds.

With car jacked up, if it's a wheel bearing you should be able to feel a little bit of play in the wheel, with your hands @ 6 & 12 o'clock on the tire. And too, while driving you should be able to confirm if it's a wheel bearing by giving the steering wheel a few little quick, small jerks (exercise a little caution when doing so)...the noise you're hearing will change when moving the steering.
