View Full Version : Is this normal with the Yaris steering lock?
I've had my car for nearly 4 months now. Just the other day, after I shut my car off in the ignition lock position and pulled the keys out... I used the steering wheel for leverage to get out and noticed it moved?
I sat back in and moved the steering wheel left and right... it did not lock. Then I turned it over to the right around a 1/4 (steering wheel turn) and it finally locked?
Is this normal with the steering lock in the Yaris? Large play before the column locks? Anybody experience the same?
My last car's steering wheel would lock if you turned it only an inch or two!
Thanks...

Yep its normal.
Yep its normal.
I don't know why it took me so long? There were a lot of differences I noticed immediately from my old car. I was hoping this was just a property of the Yaris! Good to know this...
Thanks!

It locks?
Wow, I don't think I experienced that in 2 years of ownership....:frown:
Thanks everyone for your comments! I've learned so much from Yaris World... :thanks:

Man, they must've not installed a steering lock in mine. I've turned it from one end to the other, no keys, no power. I tried this after noticing the same thing when getting out of the car, that I used the wheel for leverage and it didn't lock. I thought it was just a product of the electric steering.
O.o!! I feel jipped.

Wow... it should lock? Mine locked after I turned it over a ¼. The following morning, I put the key in and turned the ignition. The key would not turn forward to the ACC position. It was locked! So, I jiggled the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key forward. Finally, it moved out of the lock position.
Cheers...

Mines lock immediately after the engine is off, like rock hard lock. Have to start the engine for it to move, was annoying because I have to restart my engine when i forget to align my wheels after I park and turn off the engine. Which makes sense, since its electric power steering.

Mine always locks, and I often have to hold a little torque on the wheel one way or another to unload the locking pawl so I can turn the key and start it.

Was your car ever stolen? Maybe somehow the lock got broken before you noticed it.
