how do i add a pic under my name when i post things like under the user name and info area on the left side of the page

Click UserCP link at top of this page. On left side of page click on Edit Signature. Look for the section to add a picture.

He's actually asking about the avatar, not the signature. Same process as mentioned above, just select Edit Avatar.
