Just weighed my car

The company across the street from mine just installed an industrial scale. So decided to throw the Yaris on there to see what it weighs. The weight is with a full tank of gas & no one in the car.

That seems correct. Should be something like 2380 stock, as I recall. Lighter than stock wheels would put you around 2360.

Might be an auto. For my 08 the weight was 2295 manual and 2340 auto. 20 pounds of personal crap seems about right. That would put the car at 2360.

Sorry forgot to mention, for those that did not know, my car is turbocharged. So the kit does ad a few lb's

And I just realized that my brain defaulted to the weight of my old Saturn (2388) instead of the weight of the Yaris (2290).

I still find it disappointing that the Yaris, one of the lightest affordable production cars currently available, is so damned heavy! Should be well below 2000 pounds.

Tell me about it. Weren't Festiva's like 1600 lbs, not that I'm trying to make that comparison:smile: Mazda 2 is looking to be lighter than the Yaris, though by home much I don't know.

Yeah, but the cars of yesteryears used much thiner steel and weren't as safe as today's cars are. My old Honda Wagovan is only 2010lbs but is bigger than the Echo HB. And I'm pretty sure the HB weighs in at 2100 full of fluids. The internal door bars are WAY bigger on the Echo than the Honda, so are all the pillars and pretty much every other structural part of the car.

Yeah, I know. Modern cars are better engineered, more solid, have more safety and convenience features and it all adds weight. We'd all be complaining about how cheap the Yaris felt if it were 2000 pounds... unless it were 300 pounds lighter by being SMALLER. That would work for me.

I'm still holding some hope for the US market Scion IQ to be under 2000 pounds with at least 90 ft-lbs of torque and a reasonable price.

Yeah, my Honda has manual everything except for brakes LOL. Even a cable clutch.

It's such an awesome car to drive, as you can feel every bit of the road.

assuming 8.8lbs per gallon, 10.5gal tank...another almost hundred pounds, it's in the right range.

either way, these cars are about as light as they come lol. i wonder what it actually would be with a serious weight redux.
