Hi Guys, I am new to the forum and hoping somebody here can help me. I recently purchased a 2002 toyota vitz which comes with the standard built in Toyota radio/tape/cd. The car is an import so the radio does not work as is.

The Radio has the following model number on it.

Pioneer FH-M9217ZT

The radio is pretty much OK but I need to install a band expander to pick up the missing channels.

1) Does somebody know where I can get an English manual for the radio?
2) A wiring diagram would be good. I am trying to hook up the positive wire from the band expander but working under that dash is not easy. Where is the easiest place to hook up the positive? I have not been able to get to the cigarette lighter which was my first choice but I can piggy back on the wire's going into the radio itself. These are easier to get to and it does not require me to take apart most of the dash, Which of the wires going into the radio is the positive? There are 2 sets of plugs.

Thanks Guys

Hopefully I can contribute sometime too.

Thanks for that CTScott

Anybody know where I can get a manual for the radio?

Also, where is the easiest place under the dash to connect a positive wire for the band expander?

Was thinking the car lighter but its so difficult getting under there.

FM Band expander must be connected to a Accessory +12 Volts source only! Do not connect the unit to a permanent +12 Volts source!

If you need best quality FM Band expander - FM Japanese Radio Converter buy from me without paying a middle man.

Hey guys. I have decided to replace the radio in this car but am unable to find a radio fitting kit anywhere.

Here is what the radio looks like currently:

As you can see its not possible to simply change it with a standard better radio.

Some of the other Vitz/echo models use a bracket like this.

Anybody know where I can get one? I dont mind ordering from overseas but have not been able to find these things anywhere in New Zealanad.

Otherwise any other suggestions would be appriciated.

Cheers

Just an update for anybody else that ever wants to change their radio in a 2002 Toyota Vitz/Yaris/Platz or Echo

I purchase one of these from ebay for GBP 12.95 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-YARIS-1999-2003-CAR-RADIO-FACIA-BRAND-NEW-/171013696064?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d135ea40).

The hardest part of the job was figuring how to remove the old cigarette lighter (12Volt supply). Eventually it came out.

The new facia just clips in replacing the entire section.

New Radio is a Pioneer Mechless MVH155UI (http://www.pioneernz.co.nz/nz/products/25/121/MVH-155UI/media.html). JB-HIFI is currently running a special for $70.40 delivered (http://shop.jbhifi.co.nz/car-sound/car-dvd/pioneer-mvh155ui-200w-mechless-usb-ipod-aux-head-unit/67061?utm_source=JB-NZ&utm_medium=button&utm_content=buy-online-button-tvs&utm_campaign=buy-online-button). Ends 4 June 2013.
