View Full Version : I think I was being made fun of for driving a yaris (or my yaris) last night.....hehe

So I was driving last night on my way home, when I noticed this car somewhat pacing me. It wasn't that obvious; however, until they were side by side with me, even when i was slowing down, and looked over and saw the one guy laughing, i knew what was going on. lol. They also started flashing their hi-beams next to me, to obviously get my attention. It was obvious they wanted to "race," but the car they were driving was like a Saturn or something? I mean, I didn't care what kind of car it was, but the car didn't even have a fart can or some aftermarket wheels on it. At that point, I knew this car was thinking that the yaris was a senior citizen's car ( which it is ), just slow as can be (which it is), and especially a exterior modded yaris (my yaris: wheels/lip kit/exhaust/etc..) deserved to be beat in a race by a stock saturn with like 3 guys in it.

So we end up pulling up to a deserted light and the one guy kept looking over at me (somewhat awkward). I then had to reach over and roll down my window (base yaris) and hear what they were saying. Honestly, i was ready to fight, not race. lol. However, they weren't dicks in their choice of words. They kept repeating, "one time man, one time." I'm like "allllllright." At that time I was thinking to myself, within 1 second, is this guy really serious? Maybe he is driving a sleeper? Maybe he thinks his stock saturn is fast? Maybe he's just making fun of me? And during this time I saw him getting ready to "launch." So like a newb under pressure, I rev'd my rpms and dumped the clutch and my wheels started peeling out like i was at a burnout competition. The high squeel from the supercharger and the annoying screetch of burning rubber, i believe, shocked the guy in the car next to me. I could see him looking over at my front tires with a blank stare. As I slowly started inching forward while my tires were spinning in warp speed, the tires finally caught onto the asphault and I was able to shift into 2nd. I slowed down once I hit 2nd and noticed the car far behind me in my rear view mirror. I'm 99% sure they weren't even going to "race," even after initiating a race. They probably wanted to sit at the light and watch my attempt at it. However, I'd like to think that they were actually somewhat shocked at what just happened next to them.

So i proceed to keep driving and see them stuck at some stop lights behind him. I finally hit a red light and they take the exit to the right of me and all give me waves outside of their windows. It could have been waves, or they were flippin me off. It was dark and hard to see, but i'm pretty sure it was waves. One could say that I possibly earned their respect? Or they were just waving me goodbye and thanking me for the entertainment that they were hoping for.

Way too long of a post. Nothing special. Not telling you a "cool" street race story or anything. Just letting you know what took place last night. That's actually the first time anyone has tried to instigate anything while i'm in my yaris. Times like that, I wish I had the power of Garm's yaris, and that the other car was actually worthy of racing.

Yeah, I would say their goal was just to get the best of you. I suppose next time you just give the "challenger" crossed-eyes with a fake goofy, jackass, or generally retarded laugh and while --> :middlefinger:

That is a great post. It is always fun when little stuff like that happens. Or when a soccer mom in a mini-van wants to race you off the line... Just have to laugh it off.

A long time ago, I had a duner on the road (not a Manx). A couple of clowns in a Camaro pulled that crap at a light. When the light changed, I came off the line with 3" of air under the front wheels, and then backed off at 10 over the limit. Well the next light was clearly a trial!

This Heavy Chevy started his runup, lots of rpm, gonna eat this VW alive!!! I'm bumping the clutch, bouncing the front end, do or die time!! Light changes, his tires are fighting for traction, and the bozos are eager for the challenge!! So I turned right...

I used to get laughed at when I was stock. It gradually went down as mods went up, but the icing on the cake was the carbon hood and thai front end I got from garm. Now all I get are stares and head turns. Most don't even attempt racing now but I sure do wish I had garm's setup under the hood too!

What is it with soccer moms and that crap??? LOL!!

I swear, everytime I'm on the road, someone feels they need to prove that their ride is faster than mine...I can't go a day without someone pulling some shit like what happened to PETERPOOP...

all the time.

Exotic owners smile or look perplexed.... Mustangs, GTO's, those guys get pissed off. Yes, I'm generalizing.

Awesome stories!

In my case I get a lot of kids trying to race with me, my Yaris looks fast but it's stock and most of the time I'm in economy mode, just going with the flow of traffic.

50% of the time I see them a couple of miles ahead of me, on the side, with a Police that just pulled them over for speeding.

I have never ever been pulled over for speeding, but I still would love to have Garm's set up! That would be amazing!, just by curiosity to all turbo Yaris out there... what are your MPG? or you just don't care any more! and have FUN!

It always feels like people are jack rabbiting off the line to prove their car is better....most of the time they are right.... I just laugh at all the attention they draw to themselves and the money they are wasting.

Today...it was a Prius...A PRIUS!!! Dude was on my tail 3 miles until we got on the on ramp for I-5. The on ramp is two lanes, so I moved to the far lane and sure enough...he gunned it...dropped into 2nd and left him in the dust. My wife...who was with me...asked if I felt more like a man after that...I said...YUP!! LOL!!
