So i purchased a pioneer HU (X920bt), and to save myself the hassle of having to splice cables (as i have no experience or the tools needed), i purchased metra's smart harness for toyotas (Metra 80-1761). Will this plug into the back of the x920bt or do i need to purchase another metra harness that connects the toyota leads directly to the pioneer deck? something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/METRA-Smart-Cable-Wire-Harness-PIONEER-Stereo-PR01-80B-/310199304931
if so, do any of you know which one (metra part number)? i am so lost and confused right now:eyebulge:
thanks in advance dudes!
just i case, link to toyota harness i purchased -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170481521558&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Why don't you look at the back of the head unit, when it arrives?

I don't think that you'll find a pre-made one for the Yaris to a specific radio. The Metra 80-1761 will have connectors that plug into the Yaris harness's radio connectors on one end and wires on the other end. You just butt splice or solder and heat shrink the Metra cable to the one that comes with the radio:

circuit city used to sell direct connect to major radio brands...but they out of business now
the only option you got now are splices or solder. i'd go solder, it's easier than you think and looks and performs better with no drop in voltages. plus, they dont corrode if you use solder. corrosion takes a long time with connectors but it's possible...not with solder

Actually the Metra 80-1761 has Toyota plugs on one end and a universal plug on the other end. You need another harness that is the universal plug to Pioneer. The Metra harness that has just wires on the end is a 70-1761. The link to Ebay you posted is the type of harness you need but I don't know if it the exact one you need because Pioneer has several different harnesses for their radios.

I hope you can use the Pioneer HU in your Yaris, I was not able to in mine; cause I had the integrated stereo in the S model, and when you pull that out you have no supports for a radio, and Metra only makes it for the single din.... :-( Probably have to order quite a bit of stuff from Toyota to make your car accept a double din, I think your okay if you get the cheaper model Yaris with the "factory" radio. Good luck - Ron

Corrosion happens regardless, solder, crimp, or mechanichal connections. The best way to "prevent" corrosion is to join two of the same type of metal (copper to copper, gold to gold, etc. to etc.) with a mechanical connection made of the same metal, and use a non-oxidizing compound gel over the connection.

Oh man, now you have me worried. I have the S model with the intergrated radio too. I do appreciate the warning though.
But i bought Metras Double Din trim plates pictured here (which i thought was the support system)---> http://www.amazon.com/Metra-95-8202-Toyota-DDIN-Multi/dp/B000K52CY2 and toyota's oem center bezel (silver outside trim piece) from my dealer.
Im i missing something here:help:? If i cant get this damn pioneer in my car i think im going to !!!!!!!
Can anyone else confirm this? Do i need anything else to mount the HU?
Also on another note, i think im just going to take metra's smart harness and just cut the universal plug off, and crimp that end of the wires to the harness that the pioneer unit brings. is crimping ok?

That's all you need. Just transfer the sheet metal brackets from the sides of the integrated radio to the sides of the new one.

maybe the sheet metal bracket is what N9QGS is referring to as not being present in the integrated radio...(is that even possible)???/
i am seriously going to kill myself if i spent all of this money just to find out i cant install it!! Especially when im getting it delivered tomorrow!!!!
Edit: Found this youtube video of the intergrated radio being removed from the yaris and the radio doesnt have a sheet metal bracket around it!!!!! At around 1:40 you can see what im talking about. WHAT DO I DO!!!

The most you may have to do is to hammer or grind down the alignment "bumps" on the OEM brackets to allow yours to sit properly.

Unless I'm smoking something the case for that integrated radio IS 2 DIN. The face just isn't. The bezel piece I ordered from Toyota effectively changed mine from integrated to a 2 DIN. I then took the pocket and made it a 1 DIN. I have the correct kit, the TOYK969 from Best Kits. That along with the new bezel piece makes a working conversion from the integrated radio.

So let me get this straight..:eyebulge:*loosens noose around neck as i lol at palmers post*, when you say case for the intergrated radio, you mean that there IS a metal piece/bracket that holds the 2 din intergrated radio in place so that the radio doesnt fall on its weight? Meaning that that same case can be detached/unscrewed from integrated radio and attached into my 2 din pioneer HU and use it IN ADDITION to the metra dash kit i purchased therefore not needing any additional parts? I just want to make sure i understood what you were saying.
I had seen your post before btw, but then again you were installing a single din unit, so i thought it would be different from my install. But i was using it as a reference for when i was planning all of this.
As you can all see i am an idiot when it comes to car electronics, as ive never done this before so i appreciate you guys' patience and help!

Okay...with the kit there are two openings on each side of the hard plastic "wings". On my deck, and I imagine yours as well, you can mount two screws per side. In my case, I don't need to use a cage. Now, I probably could have used the metal mounting wings versus the kit's wings, the only reason I didn't was the metal to metal contact issue between my deck's chassis and the car's dash sub frame. Call me picky.
I just don't see with using a 2 DIN why the kit doesn't work. That being said, I'd like to see this in person (or you can post some pics so that we might guide you).

So i need some expert advice once more as i want to do this right....so here we go...
1.Is this the parking brake wire( yellow; pictured below) that im supposed to clamp to the decks harness parking break wire, via wire tap? im 90% sure, but dont want to screw it up.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/fxny12004/P5161513.jpg[/IMG]
Here is the parking brake wire coming from the harness.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/fxny12004/P5161515.jpg
2. Is this a good spot to mount the GPS antenna(top of a/c air duct)? I cant think of any other place to put it. Any suggestions?
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/fxny12004/P5161516.jpg
3. Will i need to use the metal mounting brackets (pictured below) on each end of the integrated radio to mount the deck? Reason i ask is that even though i have the metra dask kit to use, the holes used to screw on the dash kit are the same for the metal bracket piece creating a dilema. again just want to make sure i wont need both.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/fxny12004/P5161521.jpg
4. Where in the world is the closest speed sensor wire located in the yaris sedan? I have searched ALL over with no luck, and i know its a purple wire according to wire color guide. I looked in the wiring manual and found this as far as location:
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/fxny12004/speedsensor-1.jpg
But i CANT make visual contact. It seems to be behind metal not accessible(where i painted red) or just dont know where to look. i I took off the glove compartment and looked, with no luck, and i looked under the hood. Where is it and more importantly how can i reach it? Also, the deck harness speed sensor wire is pretty short so i will need to buy some wire and clamp that wire with wire taps to link them right?
5. Lastly, same goes for the reverse gear signal wire. Where and how do i reach it?
Thanks again guys!

1. I'd suggest grounding the parking brake wire, otherwise you won't be able to play video, while in motion. If you do want to use it, the Yellow wire is correct.
2. GPS antenna - I tucked mine into the sound absorbing mat the is attached to the bottom of the flat area in front of the cluster.
3. If the metra kit can support the radio and has mounting tabs in the correct place for where the brackets mounted, then you can use it in place of the metal brackets.
4. VSS (speed sensor): The sky blue wire in pin 16 of connector D1 (the smaller of the two connectors going to the cluster). It is between a pink and a yellow wire.
5. Reverse: Typically you can get away without this. It is used to keep your position relatively accurate when the GPS drops the signal for a bit. If you want to hook it up, you can grab the feed for the back-up lamp at the under dash fuse panel. It is a red wire in pin 30 of connector 4A.

So after talking to a guy ( that i trust) at my steal-ership he showed me where the easiest way to tap into the speed sensor wire is (in his opinion), after an extensive search through the manual. He said to tap into the speed sensor wire going into the ECM (the computer, A21, Pin 8) Its a violet/white wire.
Question is...is this right and or safe? I really dont want to mess up the speed sensor wire or the ecm for that matter if you know what i mean. I already pulled some 18 gauge wire from the passenger cabin to the engine compartment to clamp it with a tap to bring back to the pioneer. Which brings me to my other question: the VSS wire seems to be gauge 22, and i went to three automotive stores AND walmart and they dont sell wire of that gauge. Is it ok if use the 18 gauge? Any consequences or issues in the future? if this wire is gonna cause me more issues, i rather not use it and not connect vss to the navi.
Also, i am planning on finishing the installation tomorrow morning and wanted to confirm some wire colors. I am all set with the speaker wires, i just wasnt sure about some of them since the color guide posted here is somewhat vague for us noobs:laugh:
So..just want to make sure i get these straight before i start clamping away with the taps:
Radio 12v blue + radio harness : this wire goes to the terminal always supplied with power regardless if ignition switch position
Radio Ignition gray + radio harness this wire goes to the electric terminal controlled by ignition
Radio Illumination green + radio harness this goes to the lightting switch terminal (will let the pioneer unit know when my headlights are on and therefore switch color scheme for night)
Did i get these right?
i know im a total noob and i appreciate all the help i've already received so praise YARISWORLD
thanks dudes!:headbang:

Correct on the wire colors.
For the speed sensor, tapping it at the combination meter, as I mentioned above, is a better choice, particularly, as it is right above where you are working with the radio.
Another option for the speed sensor is right at the radio (for Sedans only, which have the factory aux jack). The white wire in pin 3 of the aux jack connector at the back of the radio is a feed from the speed sensor. The white wire is at the opposite end of the connector from the 4 wires for the aux jack (which are in 15,16,17,19)

- Speed signal / sensor
- Parking brake
- Reverse Signal
Can anyone please help me find these?
Thanks.

Reverse Signal: red wire in 4A-30

Is there anything wrong with my wiring?
