Installed HID, Cracking in stereo

Hey guys and gals its been a while

Installed HID in my headlights and Fogs, wired per diagram. the fogs are wired to the Accessories. when i hit the high beams theres a cracking in the sound system, and at times with the fogs. also for some reason when i hit the High beams my zune reboots. the zune isnt wired to any power of the car just plugged into the Aux Port.. Any ideas??

do you have a relay for the HIDs or were they just plug into stock harness with the ballast,mine on my tC caused interferance as well till I put in a relay to isolate the ballast from the rest of electrical system......it was super annoying.

there is a guy on Scionlife named operatic that sells the relay harness for cheap,it might help.

Can you scan and post the wiring instructions? With the Zune rebooting, it sound like you might be getting a high voltage pulse on the ground from the ballasts.

The kit just plugs right into the stock harness so i dont think it has a relay

I don't think that the relay method would help, as you will still be injecting the EMI/RFI from the ballasts into the system. The typical purpose of the HID relay harnesses is to bypass DRL module or to provide a direct supply from the battery for cars where the headlight circuit doesn't have the ampacity required by the ballast.

Cheap ballasts (cheaply made, not necessarily cheaply priced) lack an EMI filter. You can make your own with a couple of capacitors. I would try a 4.7uF and a 22,000 pF between the red and black power wires for the ballast. If the 4.7uF is a polarized electrolytic, make sure that the polarity indicator points the correct way (i.e. usually the negative side is marked with an arrow with minus signs on it - Make sure that that leg is connected to the black wire). The two capacitors get connected in parallel with each other, so both go between the red and black wires.

You will need one set per ballast. The values are best guesses, based on what I've seen for values in schematics of ballasts.

The first one is fine. The second was 22,000 pf (or .22 uF). From Radio Shack, I would try these:

BTW im guessing this set up is just to deal wit the crackling, any ideas why using high beams reboots the zune?

Turn on the Zune, and do not connect it to the Aux Port. See if the Zune reboots when you hit the High beams. Lemme know what hapns...

This might help to prevent the HF radiating back to the power supply in the vehicle...
