I'm really into the metal/rock/hard rock/alternative music too, but I find driving long-distance I need something a bit more lively that I can sing along to, to keep me awake!
All my travelling MP3 CD's usually have these staples fairly consistently:
Blink 182
Living End (old stuff)
KoRn
Nirvana
Chevelle
Bliss N Eso (Aussie Hip-Hop - Really catchy!)
Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Florence and the Machine
As well as a mix of house/trance, classic hits and metal/hard rock. Pretty eclectic!
I think there might also be a fairly extensive post a few pages back in this section on music people listen to while driving - That might help you out too!
Lady Gaga on replay, non-stop haha
or at least that's what I do
Random j-pop or anime OSTs

Anything and everything - classical to punk. My mp3 player is always on shuffle. I even have Star Trek audio books on tape incase I have to do some long distance driving.

^ I like Epik High's latest album..epilogue :)
Tablo's too awesome.
I listen to a variety...
Japanese R&B...
Korean HIp-Hop (Epik High or MCSniper)
American music...whatever is on the Rock/Hip-Hop stations..
Lady Gaga is obviously a great reccomendation. with my sub some metal and punk rock stuff doesn't sound that great, so it's usually pop music while I'm cruising...

I'm w/ Jumpman on the reggaeton, if I am not listening to that I have R&B/HipHop going. Trey Songz, Plies, Usher, Robin Thicke, Luda, Pitbull are some of the ones on my play list. As for the reggaeton I have Daddy Yankee, Wisin y Yandel, N.O.R.E., Ivy Queen, Baby Ranks, Angel Y Khriz <3 <3 .... and a bunch others just can't think off the top of my head.

I have playlists on my iphone that I hook up when i'm driving. I guess it totally depends on the situation. For a 3 and a half hour drive I would be listening to some relaxing music with the A/C on, maybe some acoustic or Death Cab for Cutie if you have my taste.
However, mostly when i'm driving it's with friends or when i'm picking up a girl, and I always want to have a little hip-hop or R&B going so everybody can enjoy the bass and premium audio in the car. Here is my most driven to playlist:
Trey Songz- Say Aah
Jay Sean ft. Lil Jon- Do you Remember?
Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne- Down
Kevin Rudolf ft. Birdman and Lil Waye- I made it
Young Money- Bedrock
Rick Ross ft. R. Kelly- Speeding
Jason Derulo- In my head
Mike Jones ft. Ying Yang Twins- Badd
The Diplomats- Hey Ma (remix)
Soulja Boy- Kiss me through the phone
Lil Wayne- Something you forgot
Usher- Oh My God
K'Naan- Wavin' flag
Trey Songz- Neighbors know my name
Kayne West and Jamie Foxx ft. Twista- Slow Jamz
That's a must have list for night time driving.

+1. The band "The Sick Puppies" has been growing on me over the last few months. Throw in some Breaking Benjamin & Silversun Pickups, and that's pretty much my playlist as well.
wow, and here I am thinking I'm going to get flamed for the Lady Gaga comment. LOL

I usually put on Adema, then hit the genius button on the ipod
For longer drives I get tired of music and put on some audiobooks like The Hobbit, I am America and So Can You, Harry Potter, etc

After 55 years of driving, I find that the LAST thing I need is another distraction; hence, no accidents (except when a 5th-wheel chuffed me) in that time. Our sedan has the mandatory radio/cd player, unused by me: my wife uses it during her job delivering mail.
I have to know what is going on using ALL my senses, and a bloody radio/cd is interfering with that. I guess it has to do with the fragility of the cars I used to drive: every sound was possibly trouble!

Driving in a silent car would drive me completely insane. I just can't do it.
It would be like watching a movie muted.

Haha I drove to Denver to see tiesto, I'm not a big fan but he is like my friends idol...
I got booted from the show And into the cold before his set even started.
Stupid ass club didn't even let me get my jacket from the coat check first.
