Ever thought of joining/using a credit union?
Many times their rates are lower than the mega-banks rates.
A small, local bank (where they get to know you personally) can work good, too.
You can also get old, have money and pay cash, but the "getting old" part sucks.

My suggestion, from almost 50 yrs of borrowing money for cars, etc:
Get your financing set up BEFORE you visit a dealership! (Just like pre-qualifying for a home loan.) You then have far more control, and the dealer has less control.
Also, suggest buyers check out the price of auto insurance beforehand to make sure the total cost of a new car is affordable.

I went through Chase, and soon afterwards I opened a checking and savings account with them as well. Their online banking is great, I pay my car payment from the seat of my arse.

.
For the last car I bought I got a loan beforehand. I thought it was a decent rate considering my credit and such. The dealership said they where going to see if they could get me a better rate. Sure enough they did. They also explained that they make some money from the finance so because of that they where able to give me a little more for my trade.
In the end I was glad I had that financing.

Remember the phrase…
“The customer is always right” I do! It was the slogan for almost every Customer based institution. Now it seems most places worry only about one thing… the bottom line, and unfortunately… The customers experience and happiness have no part in the bottom line.
Well it’s time to take that back… And start demanding better service. Today I stand-up to fight these Money Making Monsters… Today I will Wage War on those who only wish to see me fail. The destruction of the middle class is over!
Hahaha hahahaha oooHahahahahahaha (evil menacing laugh)

Geno, good job!
You gave them a reason to work for you. If you had not taken the pre-approval step, they would have sold you the highest rate they could - because it would have made them even more money.

That, unfortunately, states the current situation pretty well. It's all about - GREED.
If average folks do not wise-up and learn about money, and reject much of today's marketing mania, they will indeed soon be the "poor consumer".

I guess the saying now should be "The customer is always rich"

Credit Unions are the only way to go for the above mentioned reasons IMHO.
