when in ohio for a toyota meet the other week, i was really surprised to see/hear regular people thanking someone who was wearing a uniform. as a canadian, it was new to me.

Very common 'round here. But today especially, because it's Memorial Day in the states. A day we set aside to honor all who have served...past and present.

Our vets fought and lost their friends just to protect our freedom. Without them our lives would be alot harder. Even though the government may have screwed them over they forever have my respect! :headbang:

At least now, due to the diligence especially of the Vietnam Vets, today's vets are being taken care of. It isn't a perfect system, but much better than it was for them. I thank those Vietnam Vets especially like my dad and close friend John, without them I would never have received my disability nor the care that I need when I need it. I would also like to remember my old roomie from Fort Hood, Scottie, for he died not on the battlefield, but after returning from combat lost his life to a drunk driver.

Really, I have always found the Canadians to be quite grateful towards their veterans; but most of my experience with Canadians has been with members of their military. We have a Canadian Air Force exchange officer where I work, he is a great guy and we go shooting on occasion.

I also remember this song by Terry Kelly that came out back in 2003 for Remembrance Day (if I'm not mistaken)...

you're welcome

my pleasure to help out...it's really uncommon for people to say that. believe it or not, even when i was in uniform in public, i never heard it. when i flash my ID and ask for a discount or use that as a form of entry somewhere, i never hear it. i mean i hear it from family and friends sometimes, but not random people...

makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

When we were on vacation in FL and my fiance was wearing his Iraqi Vet hat (he served in the army, stationed overseas in Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq), he received many "thank yous". Same thing when we were in Wildwood, NJ over the weekend.

It does occur. Just not as much as it really should.
