I am just putting a feeler out to see if there is interested in OE style fiberglass front fenders...

After a recent mishap with our HP Yaris we are replacing all of the front body work. To meet the SCCA Production class rules we have to cover the tops of our 10.5" wide slicks, this has required the use of flares. I was talking to the vendor who supplies our flares about building a one-piece fiberglass fender, with the flare already built in.

This should cut some weight on the front of the car, and give us the tire clearance/coverage we need. The other option would be just a direct OE replacement with no flare, if you want the flares you just add them on.

I just did not know if anyone other than us would be interested in such a product. He should have a ballpark figure for me in the next week, and a minimum number needed to proceed - so far it sounds like six pairs.

The end result would look very similar to the image below. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2686/4427136759_893346ceef_b.jpg

Since the flares cover both the fender and the bumper, how would that be done? two piece?

^I think he's saying the flare section of the fender would stick-out beyond the front of the fender to wrap over the bumper. If it's true then IMO it actually sounds like a good idea for those who have body kits or planning on one eventually.

The initial thought was a once piece (flare incorporated into the fender) with an overlap on to the bumper - this makes it an easy install for our purpose. However, we quickly realized that not everyone may want the flare, and where the cosmetics are second to function for us, that may not be the case for others. Additionally, this could create a challenge for anyone not using stock bumpers.

So likely it would be done as two pieces. The fender would be a direct OE style replacement, with separate flares.

I will be seeing the supplier this weekend, so hopefully I will have an update on Monday.

I talked to our supplier... He thinks he could do a small order, six sets, for around $350 retail. This would be a pair of OE style replacements, no flare.

A set of four fender flares retails for $299.

If there is enough interested I will pass it along, and he can proceed from there.
