How easy is to throw off the Yaris alignment?

I was wondering if it's a Yaris issue or just a small car issue in general. It seems like it doesn't take much at all to throw off the alignment in any sort of way.

Is this common with Yarii's or kei cars?

it depends what you are comparing it to. I've had no alignment problems thankfully, but if you drive on really bumpy/bad roads, it will ruin the alignment of any car.

it depends upon where you live.... with the horrible roads in Michigan and Ohio, you should get your alignment checked every 6 months. I usually need to get a realignment atleast once a year. I drive about 20k miles a year

I run wide wheels, so my car tends to go out more often than most I think. Comparing the Yaris to my tC (which also runs wide wheels), I'd say they are about the same, though.

He means stop turning the wheel before you hit the steering lock, and I agree. I've heard it was bad for the PS motor, not the alignment, but I could see it affecting both.

No problems in over 40K miles. Tracks straight and no tire wear problems. I've been thinking this car has a pretty tough suspension considering the gravel roads and pot hole winters it goes through.

Thanks Yarr!...I'm probably alittle older than most...don't catch some of the chatter at times:help::biggrin: And yes I agree,it would be hard on the motor or pump ,if it had one.Not so sure about the alignment though,that motor has "some" power,but, hard to believe it's that strong.

I drive down a gravel driveway that gets washed out with 5" gaps every time it rains many many times everyday, as well as driving on some TERRIBLE roads that are patched, cracked, crumbling, and all together awful. I have yet to try a winter with the Yaris, but so far my alignment is still spot on. No hands on the wheel doing 60+ mph down the interstate/highway and I don't even move towards the other lanes.

Last alignment I had was 3 years ago at the dealership when I first bought mine brand new, since then, still tracks straight as an arrow

Unless you hammer over or into something extraordinary (curb, huge pothole, etc) you shouldn't throw it out of whack.

awesome thread - have been wondering the same thing myself as I do about 250KMs a day commuting - and I know I'll take my Yaris in for alignment / balancing / tire rotation against the dealer's wishes (they sometimes think Toyotas are invincible)

I'm thinking that having lowered suspension = harder hits on the potholes and bumps = easier thrown out alignment. I don't know.

1) Roads in Thailand suck
2) I got tint that was far too dark

I sliced a curb (that I did not see) on a corner and scratched the wheel. Alignment was still good.

I also made the mistake of passing in the slow lane (the far left lane here). I was trying to overtake a slow semi that was hogging the middle lane and sped up to about 120KPH. That's when I remembered I was in Thailand. About 8 seconds to impact, I see a gigantic drainage pipe that was not flush with the roadway and stuck into half of my lane. The road apparently sank and the pipe pushed the roadway up, effectively making a curb sized speed bump. So my motorcycle riding instincts took over. I didn't have enough room to stop or even slow to a safe speed, and I didn't have enough room to overtake the truck. . . and I was trapped by the wall and the truck, so I had no choice but to hit it. I gave full brakes, and a moment before impact I gave full throttle (to unload the front suspension and give a little more ground clearance.) I went airbourne every so slightly (my second time, lol). Anyway, suspension tracks straight and alignment came back within specs. I love my Yaris.

For me, this wasn't too difficult. When I got my new tyres the bloke told me that the left side was out -.5 and the right 2.0 - Which had only happened in a six month period. That being said, the roads here are mostly terrible... Full of sizable pot-holes and dodgy 'patch up' jobs, as well as a lot of ungraded gravel roads.

done 40.000 km so far in 4 years
never had alingment issues ..

It is a tough little car .. weak body but a tough suspension ..
i see many cars with failed suspensions everyday and less than 20,000 km .. bad roads
but this babe is still running strong
