If that is the same Att....
are they charging you for the routers/modems too along with the early termination fee plus the months you've since switched to Charter?

^ I hate AT&T for years for long distance and international long distance. They were great until they got sold or bought by some other company a little over 4 or 5 years ago.
Then I started getting these outrageous bills and fees on my land line for barely using it. They charged me something up to $90 monthly Ridiculous. I went on vacation, came back (phone wasn't being used) to a $75 or $80 bill.
I went VOIP and never regretted it.
They keep writing me, want to sell me Verse but I took a look at the contract.. how do I know if I'm going to live in the same place a year or two year down the road. So I said no. It's hard to go back to a company once you've had a bad experience with them :iono: kept me away from the iPhone all these years

As far as phone service goes, I love my Metro PCS. some stuff kind of blows but you can't argue with unlimited calling nationally, unlimited global texting and unlimited global calling for 5 bucks extra.
So for $55 a month out the door (flat fee) I get unlimited national/global calling, unlimited global text, internet and any other thing under the sun you can imagine.

unlike sprint and verizon that lock the phone down so far that additional things the phones are capable of are not allowed... like with the fact that i make my own ringtones, but cannot transfer them to phones on verizon or sprint via bluetooth... that and the fact that verizon and sprint are using outdated CDMA tech. vs. GSM... GSM FTW

you broke a contract with a major corporation...... what did you expect? oh no problem mr smith we will promptly bend over and rip up the contract with no recourse..... i've had to deal with people complaining about prepaying their mortgage and getting pissed for the penalty it incurs..... if you cant follow a contract you sign then suffer what penalties come... i have att with no problems and i hope you enjoy charter's nazi internet that you cant even torrent on without getting your connection shut off....

whenever you're about to sign a contract for anything (leasing an apartment, getting cell phone service, etc., etc.) it's always a good idea to ask what the ETF are and find out how much it cost if you should need to back out for any reason.
but man, 700 bucks is a LOT of money. I feel for the op :frown:

I've got to get off AT&T when my contract date comes up next spring. Their coverage is just too poor around here. I need to find out if they have some BS requirement for advance notice of termination.

Agree. I was originally on PacBell Wireless in 2000 (still carrying the same number ever since BTW) before it changed to Cingular. There were no problems up to that point. Then Cingular got absorbed by AT&T and I noticed I was no longer as happy with my signal and bill. I had to call and bug them about some things every few months to set things right. Now they increased their signal range and know I do thoroughly examine my bill every month. No problems since.

Do you mind posting the break-down of all those charges? I would suggesting giving them a call and seeing if they would settle for less.
But before you do call them, trying googling a few times to arm yourself with information. Issues with longterm contracts are many and you might run into a forum post some where on the internet with people who have had nearly the same problem, see how they dealt with it. I agree with those here who say you obviously broke the contract but close to a 1k bill is a bit overboard on Att's part.
Good luck.
a bit? it is insane, and there is no way you should pay it. If you have to, make a fuss, if your story is on even the local news, they'd get so much bad publicity they would do anything to stop it.
