Ok, the 4th Annual Mt. Saint Helen's cruise/potluck was a blast and we had a record turnout for Yarii (9 in total) show up. I think now we have enough willing members to do our own meet and not have to rely on the scion crowd.

So I'm trying to think of something that isn't too far of a drive for everyone, can be fun and provide some awesome scenery, and the food thing seems fun as well.

I was thinking Mt. Rainer maybe in August or September, as it's a pretty reasonable drive for most. Mt. St. Helen's was a 4.5 hour drive for me, and is probably the extent of time I'd drive for a local event. There also might be some fun festivals or things like that, I know Washington is full of that stuff.

So lets post some ideas, I'm thinking something in Washington state as it would be close enough for most of us.

Mary Hill Stonehenge & State Park? It's pretty close for me (2-ish hours) but I don't mind a longer drive so just about anything is good. If it's more than a 5 hour drive, I'd probably look for a campground and turn it into a 2 day trip.

I'm down for something reasonable. I may have to pass depending on the work schedule. We'll see what you come up with.

Stonehenge looks like a nice choice. What about something in the Central Oregon range? Some nice scenery there as well.

I'd have to turn it into a trip to see my buddy in Seattle... else Ranier would be a bit far for me. I'm 2 hrs south of Portland... so anything much further than St. Helens means a long day for me.... especially if the meet time is before noon.

I'll have to bow out of this one I think.

If we could coordinate something in the Seattle area would more be able to attend? Seattle is just over a couple of hours away for me. Dunno what we could do though...

I'd be up for Seattle but I think your original idea of Mt. Rainier would work better. Those of us that can, or want to, will be able to caravan up. It would be a good place to stop and have lunch. Nice camp grounds if anybody wanted to make it a 2 day trip. It's close enough to the border that we might be able to get some of the Canadian Yarii owners to show up.

I'd be up for just about anything.

Lol I know you would

Just trying to figure out what works best for most. Sadly I know whatever we decide won't work 100% for everyone. Now for the 2nd part, date?

Sounds fun to me! Anyone willing to take a gander to Mt. Rainer and scope it out? I know there's some good camping, cruise areas, and places to visit up there. I've only been up there once about 5 years ago but it was awesome.

I was thinking of a weekend maybe late August or early September up @ Mt. Rainer. Talked with some over at nwtuner.com and they'd be interested too if we pick a date.

I can attend Aug 21-22 or any of the first two weekends in Sept. I vote for Aug 21-22.

I'm in if the date works out!!

Late August is usually a safe bet for good weather.

Mt Rainier would be awesome, there's lots of pullouts for pics and Paradise has a visitor's center and lodging for those that wanna stay.

There's also a cool Steam train ride out of Elbe, takes about 2 hrs, and you get a BBQ lunch! There's one scheduled for Aug 20, folks could meet up, do the train (and eat), then head up the Mountain to Paradise.....just an idea to break up some of the driving.

Stonehenge is a great idea, you can visit Maryhill Museum, and Maryhill Winery has an amphitheater for summer concerts, Natalie Merchant Aug 7th; Earth, Wind & Fire Aug 28th. There's also Maryhill State Park down on the river so those that wanna stay for the show and taste some wine can make a weekend out of it.

Hm august 21-22nd would probably work out well as it is over a month away. We need someone with some good event planning skills.

Looks like a possible date has been picked  but I think it would be good to get more input from everyone before finalizing the date. Since it looks like there may be some attendees from nwtuner.com it might be difficult to coordinate it on this site.

I'll start a meetup.com group for it unless someone has a better idea to get the ball rolling on this. Are there better sites for this? I'd be happy to update info as we figure out the exact where & when.

What about the weekend after? 28-29?

Meetup.com is a great place, I'll poke in @ nwtuner and see what they have to say. Has anyone mentioned something over @ scionlife? If we haven't maybe wait till we pick a date. Don't want this to be a scion organized thing. Us Yarii owners need some cred.

Ok, I'll set up the meetup group. Just one quick question, since we want a group that is Yaris based (so we get some cred:biggrin:) what should we call it?

I was hoping for something that makes a good acronym, just for fun.

PNWYO - Pacific Northwest Yaris Owners
TINY - Toyota I?????? N?????? Yaris
Tell me what ya got!

or
OrGY - Oregon Group Yaris:eek:

Another thought....not so original maybe but has a memorable ring:

WCY....for....West Coast Yaris....

Or maybe WCYO....for....West Coast Yaris Owners

Or maybe NWCY....for....North West Coast Yaris....

I'm cool with whatever, as long as the acronym isn't bad.

That's why I'm leaving it up to everyone else:biggrin: Actually, I'm terrible with coming up with good names so I'm good with anything as well.

I think I like "NWCY" best so far.

Work was crazy busy yesterday so I didn't get the meet up group formed. Sorry, but I'll do it a little later today. I have to go in for a few hours today to finish a project so it won't be until this evening.

I took a break while at work and made the group.

http://www.meetup.com/NWC-Yaris/

I wanted to go with "NWCY" but the group address has to be at least 6 characters.

I signed up for the 3 month subscription, so we'll see how it goes. If anybody sees anything that needs to be changed or corrected, please point it out. If you have an idea for improving things, let me know. I'm not promising that your idea will be implemented but it will definitely be considered.

Once everyone has had a chance to look at it, I'll start a new post about the group on YW and over on Micro Image
