So, I'm in the process adding fogs to my Yaris, and for a guy that's not too into cars, this is some tough stuff (lame, I know).

For example, this...Remove your front bumper. There are 5x plastic push-pins along the top, 2x plastic push-pins at the end of the bumper at the wheel guard (1 on each side), and 8 screws along the bottom (use your socket wrench with a 10mm socket here to make your life easier)....sounds easy, but for me, it's quite the undertaking, and as you can see, the bumper is just hanging there, not fully off (I missed a screw... :redface:).

After one hour, the car looks like this, bumper hanging off, fog lights screwed in, wiring half done... but tomorrow's another day, and hopefully I can start up when it's cooler in the morning, versus 70 and humid right now...

All I know is that you guys that can do this stuff with your eye's shut, I've got nothing but :respekt:!

right and have some self satisfaction. I haven't done any mods to my
car yet, and am by no means as smart as many here. With my old cars,
they were old and beat up, so I didn't mind if I messed up a little. :tongue:

It's funny I was in the same boat as you were just a couple of days ago, I am no mechanic either!

I did read from other threads that you don't really need to remove the bumper completely , so I think you are okay (better off).

It's 6:45 AM (I'm so glad that the Army has me rewired to get up at such a horribly early time) and I'm about ready to give it another go!

I'm not looking forward to grounding the things though, as the bolt that already has some stuff grounded to it is in a tight spot.

Yeah, this picture I found in another DIY fails to mention that they removed the head light! Luckily, I've got little hands and a tiny ratcheting socket set!

Well, off we go!

20 minutes later: All engine bay connections made. Bumper still off just in case we have any loose connections. Much easier than I thought!

Note to self: Don't start projects involving ripping your Yaris apart after a long day at work!

Just for anyone installing fogs...it can be done without removing the bumper. Just loosen the covers from the bottom and bingo.

I want fog lights, too. However, I am real leery of taking off the steering
wheel for the light stalk. :frown: I'm going to have to do some hard
thinking on that.

toy_toronto, congrats! Looks good, and your Yaris is a bit cleaner than mine. Mine needs a bath big time!

Oh, and your picture (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/images/funkygarage/1376/IMG_8524-copy.jpg) inspired me to finish the other side of my debadge! No more "Yaris"; smooth as a baby's bottom!

Revsson, the steering wheel was surprisingly easy to pull off, and the only big issue I had was getting the original stalk off. The main difficulty was that I was going about it with kid gloves. Finally, I said "to hell with this" and gave it a good tug with one hand while the other was holding the metal retaining clap open with pliers in the other.

Seriously, slow and steady, and it's pretty simple to do. I took my sweet time and the whole thing took maybe 3 hours, if that. But, I did have some help from CTScott! Video Help! (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=481546&postcount=23)

There are other options. For example, I removed all of the switch leads from my wire-harness and have the fogs relay'd off of the parking lamps. They function with the parks, low and high beams....no stalk switch...or any wiring in the cabin for that matter.

Billiam, I used the fogs and wiring harness from Garm's kit on MicroImage. I then bought the shrouds / covers / bezels / whatever you want to call 'em and the switch from my dealer. Everything looks OEM, and I can't be any happier! :thumbup:

My advice (for what it's worth) Revsson, just go with what you are comfortable with, and with whatever achieves your desired endstate. For me, I wanted it to look and act as close to OEM as possible, so I went with the fog light stalk. Sure there are other ways to install them, but that's the route that I thought would work best for me.

Regardless of how you want to do it, there are some great people here that'd be able to help you out!

Fear not, I did mine on my much-beloved month-old Yaris back in November 2008 and it had me angst'd out!

I am used to Jeeps where you can fix a lot of the problems with a hammer and duct tape (kinda like Russian Army rifles!), and I am a bit ham-fisted in the first place (I was an aircraft maintenance analyst when I was enlisted in the USAF, but I didn't wrench on many jets).

Personally, I don't mind the mechanic stuff as much as I do the electrical. My fogs are wired up to my fuse box, and have worked perfectly for the past 18 months. I love that I can run them with my parking lights, but they go off when I don't have any lights on. They do a great job lighting up the road immediately in front of the car, and of course the extra visibility helps especially with the brain-dead drivers in this town!

Congrats on getting this mod done, I think it is one of the best ones that can be done on the car. A Yaris looks like it's missing something when it doesn't have fogs...

I just went downstairs, opened the garage door and turned on the head and fog lights.

Woo, they are bright!

Even if they aren't being used when it's foggy out, they seem like they'd be real good to just stand out a little more on the highway! You know, maybe make the Yaris a little less invisible in a sea of huge SUVs.

Thanks Billiam. Originally I wanted to go factory but I actually didn't get to try the factory fog light stalk since the kit I bought off eBay came with everything I needed (yes, even the bezels). Not the best fit but they will do for now until I get the "good stuff" from the dealer.

Looks like the fit for the bezels as improved over the older '09+ kit that I saw.

toy_toronto, I envy the fact that the Canadian indicator for your headlights looks like, well, headlights... way better than the USDM http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/images/icons/icon3.gif lightbulb thing. You know despite the fact that the icon switch looks like what's on your Canadian dash. Why can't they make it look the same?

Yes the bezels aren't too bad there is a slight gap at the top (less than 1mm) where you can see some light shine through but it isn't noticeable at all.

The fog lights seem to be of good quality (glass, not plastic). The entire kit cost $115 with shipping included.

As for the fog light dash indicator, I would say if you can tap 12V from the the fog lights switch (when flipped to "ON") wires and feed that 12V signal to the D2 connector Pin 7 red wire, it would take you no more than 15 minutes to fire up that indicator :biggrin:

(* that includes removal of the front instrument panels to get to the cluster/D2 conn).

The wheels are 17's Enkei CDR9. I do like them and I'm glad I picked them and no regrets... They weigh around the same as the OEM steelies.
