Yaris Engine died

Hi Folks,

Am new here and I was hoping someone could offer me some advice.

I am a new driver and bought an 02 yaris with 35k miles on Thursday. Been driving it with no problems until tonight. I was driving up a hill towards a tight bend and had slowed down and was in 2nd gear. All of a sudden the power felt like it had gone out of the car and I had the accellerator pedal right to the floor but nothing, it pretty much died. I put handbrake and hazards on and then re started car. Moved off no problem and fine for the rest of the 15 minute journey.

I was really shaken and am quite nervous in case it happens again. Wondered if anyone else has any experience of this?

Other than this I love my car and am hoping its nothing serious.

Just a thought, it could have water in the bottom of the gas tank that shifted with the slope of the hill and reached the fuel pickup in the tank. Engines don't run well on water.

Check the car's control system for any stored error codes that might give a clue what happened.

How slow were you going? It could just be that you may have been at a low enough speed to not get the power you needed and would have been better off shifting into 1st.

I'm no car master, but that was my first thought.

Well yeah, if you get too slow in a higher gear, the engine will bog down and quit.
