Will these snow tires fit?

Hey guys. This is my first post on here. I've been lurking around, and been finding some good information. I just traded in my 2000 Celica GT-S for a 09 3dr HB. Since I live in Michigan, I ran 2 sets of tires depending on the weather. My snow tires are 205/55/16 tires. I know the bolt pattern is different, so my old rims are no use.

Questions:

1. Will the 205/55/16's fit under a stock Yaris?
2. Will the 205/55/16's fit under a Yaris lowered 1.9" (Tein S.Tech)?
3. What rim size/offset would be needed? I prefer CHEAP rims.

3. most people prefer a 14 inch rim for winter, with a 175 width. 205s on a yaris in the snow = lots of sliding around. Skinnier tires cut through the snow and get down to pavement.

Yarr, thanks for the reply. I ran those tires on my Celica for 5 winters, and the thing was a beast. My Celica had full suspension, lowered, sways, etc. The 205 tires I have, the tread isn't as wide as the 205's I had on my Celica. I'm curious why you say the 205's would cause the car to slide around?

Only in snow. The yaris is a lot lighter than a celica, oh and FWD. I personally don't drive in snow much and I usually use chains when I do, but from reading on here 205s are like snowshoes. You just can't cut through the snow and hit good pavement.

Actually, the Celica is a FWD car. Amazingly, I don't have any pictures of the outside of the car. It was a very fun car, and handled like a dream. But after 168,000 miles, I felt the need to get a different car for the miles I commute. I'm sure some kid will be happy with all the custom mods I did to that thing.

I'm looking online for snow tires right now. Any suggestion on size, brand, and rim size? I drive over 145 miles each day, so the tires would need to perform well on side roads, as well and dry highways during the summer months. The set I was using are Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice tires. I LOVE those tires! And after 5 seasons, based on the tread, I could easily have gotten another 5 seasons from them. Too bad they won't fit. :cry:

Well, I ended-up with some Pirelli Winter Carving snow tires, 175/65R-14, and a set of 14" steelies. Total from TireRack.com was $465.12. Thanks again to everyone for helping me out. Can't wait for winter to see how they perform!

fyi, quite a bit smaller than your rolling stock...you'll sit 1/2" lower than your oem 185-65-15's

perfectly safe, but might hit ice/snow chunks more steadily

Actually, stocks are 185/60-15. That's why my car came with, and that's what TireRack.com shows as stock. The 175/65-14's are the stock size for 14" rims. So it should sit the same.

Post up when the white stuff falls in a few months... let us know how they work.

I'll be sure to post pics when I get them on. They'll be on as soon as there is a hint of snow. Can't wait to see how they handle. I drive 100+ miles a day on Michigan back roads that don't get much plowing, so it should be fun!

Actually, the Celica is a FWD car.


Only after 1993. In 1986-92 it was availible with AWD, and from 1971-85 (where it's at <3) it was RWD only. :)
