Who will get the Scion iQ?

I'm curious to see how many people are going to be getting the Scion iQ when it finally hits our shores this year, either as a trade in or accompanying car. I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival until I noticed a few things with the US model:



Edit: 1.33 engine without start-stop system like Euro model
Same width as the Yaris (66.1 inches)
Same steering wheel as Yaris instead of non-symmetric one in Euro version.
No manual transmission, CVT only
Smaller and harder to use radio controls compared to Euro model
Probably starting around $14,000, to fit the "premium" small car niche occupied by Smart car
No glove compartments/pouches on dash, like in Euro model

I obtained this data from a bunch of different sources online and from Toyota. I'm kind of bummed now that I see it for what it is: a shortened Yaris with less practical use, higher price and negligibly better fuel economy. What do you guys think? Who plans on getting one?

I'm already discouraged. I paid only $12.5K new for my Yaris and still got more features, like OEM alloys and Power Package. Sorry, have to pass on this.

That's exactly what it is.

The higher price is (in Europe at least) backed up by better equipment than the Yaris. The iQ is not offered in basic level so even the cheapest ones get 15'' alloys, tinted glass, A/C, leather steering wheel w/ audio controls, leather shifter, remote central locking, electric windows, MP3/CD audio w/ 6 speakers and AUX in, heated seats, 50/50 rear seat and traction control- most of which is not standard on the Yaris.

As for fuel consumption, mileage for the iQ is 20% better than for a Yaris with the same engine.

We are reading everything we can find about the IQ... the smaller exterior dimensions & 1.3 L/CVT seem to be exactly what we will be looking for.

Our Colorado will be paid off in 10 more payments... I will never finance for 72 months again. We have found the 4x4 CC to be very dependable (oil changes, brake pads & shoes, TB cleanings... all DIY with Coloradofans.com assistance) & intend on keeping it as a second driver for the 3 months of snow we get. As a homeowner... the utility of a pickup is nice to have at times also. At that time we will look at the IQ and Yaris to see which makes more sense for us as a primary driver.

The decision between IQ, Yaris, & certified Yaris will ultimately be the bottom line. Like I said, I do not want to finance for 72 months again... will stick to 36-48 months as a limit.

The split fold-down seats on the iQ would work better for me....rear seat up for a passenger or two, seat down (one or both) for my bike, trip to Home Depot, or other stuff. Perfect flexibility.

Wheels at the corner and a smaller turning radius are also attractive iQ features...I'm looking forward to a test drive.

I'll sell you my Tracker for $2000 its got a small turning radius and its a hardtop convertible plus its 4X4

I'll sell you my TrackerIt's too big, too....besides, I like a lower COG.

How is the Tracker too big? It has less interior space than a Yaris and only one glovebox. If you want a low center of gravity I'll cut the springs so it can lay frame for you

There are actually a few new small cars coming out, besides the iQ.

Honda CRZ (hybrid)
Mazda 2
Ford Fiesta

Seems like the Yaris still stacks up pretty well though. None of the new offerings really tempt me jump ship just yet.
