it's all over the news now, the Iphone 4 is having some antenna issues (similar to what early Nexus Ones owners reported)

you may have heard that Steve Jobs apparently told some irrate guy in an email "Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it."

here it is in a bit more details

Several lawsuits have been filed over this in the last week, so for Steve Jobs' sake I hope he has something better than that to tell a judge:

i hope they go back to simply making computers. Cause besides their marketing , they suck! I mean didn't they test the phone to see whether or not the antenna will be an issue. Im sorry but if you expect people to dish out close to 1k$ on a phone you better make sure this thing will work in outer space during a meteor shower....

Agreed, I know so many people who have replaced there iphones because they broke it or my gfs bestfriend who on every update her husband does, her phone screws up, till the next update.

Well I have had not one problem with the iPhones I have had (and all the others inknow that own one)....until this antenna issue. Apple values their customers, especially the iPhone market, and they will do something to resolve the issue.

I dont think I will ever buy or own an Iphone cause Im a cheap kinda guy when it comes to cell phones. I got the Ipod Itouch though for music, video, games and free wifi.

I used Tracfone Motorola prepaid cell phone that I bought for $15 3 years ago. It works great with texting and saved me a lot of money cause I only spend $20 every 2 months on calls Nationwide.

I think Iphone is a waste of money for cell phone in my opinion that is why I would never ever get one. That is just me.

Anyways Iphones are really cool though to have. Maybe when Im rich I will buy one lol.

Umm, $300 for the 32gb with either new customer or upgrade, which to my understanding is pretty much the only way to actually buy it. Can't buy it without the contract.

I have it, through upgrade. As I have done with all of my phones (no matter the make/model), I put a case on mine. Particularly with this one as it has the glass front and back. I have had no issues with mine at all, antennae or otherwise.

Without Jobs there would be no Pixar. He invested in them at a crucial time when no one else would. We take computer animation for granted now, but he was quite instrumental in making it happen.

The babysitting reference ... well have you ever seen parents put on kid's movies and just let the movie "babysit" for a couple of hours to keep them quiet? Pixar movies are popular for that.

Also good for demonstrating home theater equipment because they have bright colors, sharp picture, etc.

I'm guessing he means that the vast majority of pixar stuff is made on macs, but I have it on good authority that they use other kinds of computers as well.

Still, not arguing that macs are better or more popular for multimedia, at least I get that impression. .02

Ooops... didn't see that comment.

You do know that Bill Gates helped Jobs develop the software part in the early days, right?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you can't entirely paint one company as the bad guy and another company as the good guy, doesn't work that way, although SJobs sure is doing a really good job as coming across as a douche, lately . 02

to get back to the phone, we have 3 or 4 at work, and they all have the problem, if you hold them tightly from the bottom. If you loosen the grip, the bars come back. I don't see it as a deal breaker, myself, because you can easily correct the problem by loosening the grip or putting a bumper around it. The deal breaker is the crappy network and paying through the nose to get half-ass signals isn't my idea of good service.

All these phones have problems, though. my EVO has light leakage and a little bit of "play" when you press on the screen (you wonder if dust is gonna get in there in the long run?) . the N1 had "touch" issues (you had to press buttons from the top half, the bottom half didn't register, which was annoying at times but not a big deal, and possibly antenna issues as well although I never noticed that myself but to be honest, didn't test thoroughly for that). The BB bold I loved so much also had signal issues as well, jumped from Edge to 3G erratically (which I initially blamed on poor signal but I understand RIM corrected the issue by releasing an update months later?).

Still, all these phones, including the iPhone4, are pretty impressive devices, the next best thing to having a computer in your pocket...

I think if the antenna issue on the iPhone 4 is so widespread, a good move for AAPL would be to give people a free bumper and send them on their way with a smile. The attitude that "hey you're holding it wrong" may not sit well with most people and makes AAPL come across as @ssholes. :iono:

Agreed every phone has there issues, my gf wants the iphone but doesnt want AT&Ts service or lack there of, though now she wants the Evo. I'm hoping Verizon has learned from at&T when the iphone comes to there network which is rumored soon. I have come across connection issues with our 25+ BB Curve 8350i on nextels network. We had to have an internal network installed to fix the issues. Did anyone see the video at Apples developer conference where Steve asked everyone to shut there wifi off cause he couldnt get it to connect and then he couldnt get it to work with at&t. I hope that the android iphone palm microsoft fued drives this industry to even further advancement and comes out with something even greater.

Here in Bristol, Tennessee, my AT&T voice service drops out several times crossing town between my phone and office, and there's a route across town I have to avoid taking because of a long dead zone. Reception's spotty right around my house. Across the Interstate the signal drops out entirely, and I can't go to the rifle range when I'm on call because I can't return calls on my phone when I get beeped. I'm looking right at a cell tower a few hundred yards away, apparently it's Verizon's. All of southwest Virginia is dead to AT&T.

if your contract isn't up, its better to just switch to verizon, at&t is the most expensive phone company out in america for no reason, they overprice people to support the iphone's service, you can only have so many people on one network before it drains everyones signal. You can probably save about 10$ a month which is 240$ for a 2 year contract with verizon for better service and better selection of phones.

Hell if you been with at&t for years and years possibly verizon would pay for your termination fees, t-mobile was offering to pay for my termination fees if i switched to them from verizon which was 300$+ back then.

Hey, good morning Thomas ;)

@ Yaris Hilton: I would switch if I were you. I believe VZW's plans are a little more expensive than AT&T but not by much, and the coverage is supposed to be better. It is definitely better here in the Bay Area.

You can try the phone for 2 weeks and see if the coverage works out for you. You can put your AT&T plan on hold for something like $10 a month, I think, while you try the other networks, and when you're ready, just port your number over to whatever phone you found works best for you.

I agree every tech has its flaws, and I have seen the presentation you mentioned, especially when it comes to Microsoft showing off the voice recognition software in Windows. Though Apple makes it seem like there products are perfect due to marketing. Though they just released a statement saying the iphone 4 software that calculates the bars is off by 2 bars, and will require a software update.

I've been away from this forum for a little bit and figured a great way to get back on board (no pun intended) is to post up on here...

So my brother is INSANE. He decided he wanted the new iphone4, so he sold his current iphone3 a few days before the new one came out (thinking he would get ahead of all the people selling theirs and the prices dropped). Long story short: he sold his to a guy in India for $460. Since he needs his phone for work, he HAD to wait out the lines on the day of the release... plus, he was pretty much making money to buy a new phone since he got so much for his old one.

Well, 14, yeah... FOURTEEN hours later... he got the new iphone4. He got to the mall at 3:45am and after 14 hours had the new phone. He said that if he had known it would have taken so long, he wouldn't have waited. But after hour 4, he figured he put in the time and didn't want it to be for nothing. lol Being the nice younger sister I am, I visited him, brought him sodas, held his place in line for bathroom breaks, and kept him company for as long as I could stand it.

Looking at how much they're going for now, I wish I waited it out and bought one for myself that I could just turn around and sell. Geezus!

Yeah, there was no way I was going to front $4xx just to not have a guarantee that I would get it all back.

But seriously... I think I could make money buying cheap iphone battery packs at monoprice and selling them to all the people in line who's iphones were dead by 7am since they were using them all night. That, or to hold people's spot while they made bathroom breaks. Next time there's an apple release... I'm so there with seat cushions, batteries, and credit card reader. lol

Hmm, let's see. I have been with Cingular/AT&T since 2001. I have never had a problem with service except for in areas where ALL carriers had service issues (i.e. Delaware Water Gap). I have traveled with my phone frequently. My dad has AT&T (formerly Cingular) since before I got my service with them. He travels for a living (San Fran, Texas, NM, Oregon, LA, Maine, NH, NJ, DC, etc, etc.). Has yet to report issues of lack of service.

I had Verizon for an Aircard. Sucked! I had Nextel which was eaten up by Sprint. Sucked! I think the only one I did not try was T-Mobile. But then again, I don't have to. My fiance had T-Mobile, and when he reported that he could not make calls while inside his house, he was told by the rep to just walk outside to place calls. Great customer service there!!

Very rarely do I not have a signal on my phone. Very rarely do my calls get dropped.

As far as price goes. I've compared between the different companies to verify that I am not overpaying for my cell service. I still find that AT&T is the best price for what I get. I have 5 lines on my plan. We utilize a lower minute plan due to rollover minutes, not to mention the free mobile to mobile that AT&T offers when calling any other AT&T customer. Family texting plan, unlimited, for $30 that covers all 5 lines. Final price would be around $220 (after taxes), but less due to 15% discount I get due to where I work.

Tell me where I can get similar service for that kind of pricing with 5 lines (one of which being up in NY).

can someone explain to me whats the deal to torture yourself with boredom and uncomfortableness (is it a word lol) in order to give your hard earned money to some company for their crappy product? the only time i saw people camp out in front of stores for good reason was during the Cold War back in Poland....they were waiting for food

I gotta tell you, one thing I find amazing is that people are willing to do just about *anything* to get their paws on the first batch of phones, meanwhile the country is still in a deep recession and double digit unemployment figure.

To be honest, I did almost the same thing, when I went to get an EVO on the day of its release... however, I didn't stand online for it, I had pre-registered and made an appt. but I did wait around in the store for a couple of hours because Sprint's system crashed due to too many activations that day so maybe I'm a little like those people :iono:
