iphone 4 sucks wind
the antenna design is a grave failure. product should never have
been released.

they said the N1 had similar problems, remember? The geek press was all over it, telling people not to get it because of that. I had a N1, it worked fine. :iono:
The antenna problem is also known as the "death grip" problem, you have to squeeze the phone *really* hard to see the bar drops.
I don't know why people are surprised, though. The iPhone has always been finicky in some ways. Great interface, really easy to use and figure out but call quality is pretty bad, dropped calls, bad reception ... :iono:

I actually just read this prior to getting on here. I agree CR is a little harshe and I take anything I read there with a grain of salt.

I'm waiting for an iPhone 4 version 2 - much like when they released the iPhone 3GS verus the iPhone 3G.

I'm using the iPhone 3GS and love it. Best $200 bucks I ever spent in electronics, and the monthly cost with ATT is in the same range I'd spend regardless of what phone or carrier I'd go with.
The iPhone 4 doesn't feel as nice in my hands, and doesn't add much in functionality to justify the upgrade cost. So I won't be buying...

Who cares what CR says?? If there wasn't a media $#!7 storm going on they would probably be all over it demanding you go buy one right now.

The iPhone 4 is a great gadget! Not if you want to make and receive calls though...

As a user of the iPhone4:
"Consumer Reports' opinion is significant because it's well respected by mainstream consumers"
Umm, yeah, try again. Their opinion may have swayed my decisions about 10 years ago. But not anymore. I havn't found much of there reports that are actually accurate.
I have not had service issues with my phone. I have had no antennae issues either. I make and receive calls frequently with no problems.
Truthfully I don't see where these people get their information from. My biggest question is where are they doing these tests at? Most likely either NYC or San Fran, "which everyone knows that phones there seem to have issues" (oh wait, on a trip to NYC bout a year ago, I had no problems with my phone, data service or calls).
But, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In my opinion, Consumer Reports needs to stop doing reports and they screw everything up.

As a safety and reliability-orientated publishing, they had every reason to rate our car as crap for the general population. People are too stupid as drivers as it is, then you give them a tall vehicle, with a short wheelbase, and no ABS or traction control?
No thanks.

The Yaris rating for 2007 was not exactly warm but it wasn't too bad either. They did give a mechanical thumbs up and high reliability mark, if memory serves.

The problem is, a phone (or any wireless devise) that doesn't work when you hold it has a serious design flaw, end of story.
To illustrate how bad and obvious the flaw is, it can be circomvented buy simply covering the antenna gap with a piece of duct tape.
You have to wonder how it was put into production in the defective state it is in when it has such an obvious and easy to fix problem in the design stage.
It is a symtom of a company that is only interested in getting a product to market ASAP and not being concerned about its flaws.
Blame it on the consumer is their motto it seems. The sheep will still be lined up to purchase it no matter what.

ha...the only thing good about the ifone is that you have and mp3 player, phone and internet device in one package. wooptie doo to itunes. i hate itunes...so much that i wont buy an ifone. any software that you can't get rid of, takes over your system, and comes back when you deleted it is called a virus...i like them to not be on my computer.
any way...i'll stick with droid phones, or even a brick phone.

I heard the iPhone 4 version 1 is being recalled - somehow I knew it was doomed when that Apple guy lost a test version at a bar - sounded SO hokey from the get-go

we will throw in a free rubber condom w/ all iphone 4s...lol
In all honesty, it needs to be a strong solution or something free for the consumers...otherwise a huge tsunami of users may be headed to the Android market ;)

Um, not really. There are a large number, despite this "supposed" flaw that love the iPhone for what it can do and the platform it runs on, simplistic to use. Realistically, there is no phone like it.

Nowadays...a simple malfunction or bad customer service can turn the majority away. Just look at retail market stats in the last 10-15 years....who has escalated up and who has escalated down.
It can happen in the phone industry as well.....

". "Maybe people thought we were perfect and this was an example when we weren't and people jumped on it. But we're not perfect. We make mistakes and we don't know everything." (Apple exec. @ press conf. today)

Well, now I'm liking these guys again. Well, a little ;) At least they admit it they messed up. Pfeww. And they're gonna give people free bumpers. Good.

they said they can't make enough bumpers for demand, so they are gonna give a choice of different cases for the iphone 4, and if you've already bought one they will refund you the money. and another good thing about it is that you don't have to brave the busy Apple Store to get one, you can just apply and get it shipped to you online at Apple's website.
