I was wondering - would the 5 door Yaris LB be a strong seller in the United States? It seems to me that it sells well in Canada. If toyota were to sell the 5 door down here, would you buy one? I must admit, I realy dig the 5 door's style.

probably, but then it would clash with the Scion xA in the small 5 door hatch market... Can't let that happen!

well, with the Xa going away next model year, you might see a 5 door yaris.

and i must say, if they did offer the 5 door, i would have baught it over the sedan.

i bought the 5 dr instead of the 3 for the sake of kids... the great thing is the styling is pretty much the same between the two just more convenient (in my case)

I'm glad that I bought the 5dr liftback, but having the side pillar in my peripheral is a real pain in the ass. I suppose for many, who's scope doesn't compared to a fish-eye, then it wouldn't matter, but for me, It sucks.

I would have bought the 5 door. Every time I have the kids with me I wish Toyota had sold it here.

It would have made no difference with me. I prefer the cleaner, sportier styling of the 3-door.

honestly, if i knew the canucks(sp?! sorry its like 5am) had the 5door i would have walked up there and drove it home. damn me for assuming only the overseas folks got them. I always forget about our neighbors to the north. AND THEY ALWAYS FORGET ABOUT ME! jk riceboy, you always invite me to your gb parties! GO LED TAILS!

That is my dream car, all the looks of the hatch, and the kids have easy access to the rear seats! I would trade mine in in a second!

Being that I go through cars about every 2 years, I would definitely trade in the 3dr for the 5dr.

The 5-door is very well balanced in terms of functionality and appearance.

I find the 3-door to look slightly bubbly in its stock form.

Not to knock on you 3-door owners, we're all Yaris owners afterall.

I agree, the 5dr has a more balanced/symmetrical look when compared to the 3dr.

If Canada had a better education system, you guys would have known that the question was "Would the 5 door Yaris LB be a strong seller in the United States?", not "What do Canucks think of the 3 door styling?".

At first I was all for the 5-door but since I'm in the U.S. I've been subjected to the 3-door but it has grown on me to the point where I feel the 5-door isn't as good where's before it was the opposite. Although the Yaris looks good no matter what but I have yet to see and experience a 5-door sigh...

I did see some three doors at the dealer, I was surpised to see them sitting the, I don't think they were even sold yet! They had the color I wanted, blazing blue but it was an auto, but I was drooling anyway.

No way on the 5-door for me. I got the 3-door because of the styling & feel of a coupe. Didn't buy the sedan because of the 4-doors. Tired of 4-doors, don't want 'em, don't need 'em!

what was that all about man?
The question says
"Would the 5 door Yaris LB be a strong seller in the United States?"
AND, directly questioning us American's
"would you buy one?"

The post itself was not necessarily directed toward Americans, but rather to those who have an opinion one way or the other on whether or not it would sell well in America.

Also, how many people have you heard that said that they chose the yaris over the fit based on styling (namely the fit looks like a super-mini van).

Thus it would make sense that those who live in a country that have both 3 and 4 dr liftbacks would have extremely valuable input such as: how functional are the 4 doors over the 2 doors, seeing as how the doors must be a good deal smaller? the reality of vision impairments? and of course, styling.

Styling as percieved by those who have actually seen both on a daily basis.

Only thing i hate those canadians for though is making me wish i had a 5 door even more:(

I'm inclined to gloat over having the 5dr model, since I'm still fuming over the fact that we don't get the Scion up here in Canada.

Also, It goes without saying, if a majority likes the way one model looks over another, then it'll reflect on sales.

well one could say that the "in the United States" would limit the actuall commenting to say.... ah U.S Citizens. All I;m gonna say is anyone else answering would be like a backseat driver and well if your a backseat driver then you'd have no problems with anyone else answering; FYI make sure to take the next right its a shortcut!!!

ahhh hahaha you damn Canadians :-) and your crazy healthcare system

I don't have a family (at least no kids yet) but still got the 4 door.

I can't tell you how much I prefer a 4 door over a two door. My Camaro, Laser, Beretta, Sunbird GT, were 2 doors. Even my S-10s my 84 and 87 were both 2 door. the 99 Chevy Xtreme was my first 3 door and MAN what a great idea that 3rd door was. I used it all the time and it was so much better then moving the seat everyday to put stuff in the back.
So when it came to the Yaris it had to be the 5 door.
Several of my friends have econoboxes and smaller cars (colbalt, neon, sprint, metro, mini copperS) and all of them wish they has a 4 door when it comes to taking on passengers. When ever we go out we take my car cause nobody likes to climb in the back seat of a 3 door, and front passengers will like not having to move the seat to let people in.
If I need to haul a bunch of junk I can get toss it in the back seat.
I'll never own another 2 door with full interior.

the 4-door liftback isnt available here because of the scion xA right?? kinda funny since the scion xA got discontinued for 2007. meaning toyota has no compact 4-door hatchback for the 2007 model year. i understand that if you want 4-doors, you can get the sedan (which was specifically designed and exclusively produced for the US market only). but i love the liftback styling (more euro, like an audi a3). if available here, i would definitely get the 4-door liftback.

I wouldn't care if they introduced a 5-door liftback for the U.S. market, as long as they don't discontinue the 3-door. Much better styling on the 3-door... more like a coupe.

The lack of a 5 door Yaris in the US is the only thing keeping me from buying one.

Exactly.... with the xA out of the way, I think it's a perfect time for the Yaris 5door... who knows... maybe for the '08 model year. As for the Sedan, it was designed for the world market, it's just not a Yaris in other countries.

I would have bought one. I went for the Scion xA because it was a 5
door LB. I almost got the 3 door Yaris but darn it if those 2 extra doors
don’t come in handy - at least for me anyway. I do love my xA, but I
am missing not getting the gas mileage that you all do.

So if a 5 door is introduced in the US, it seems as though there may quite a few slightly used 3 doors available. I would be willing to bet money that any 5 door hatch introduced here could only be gotten with a full power package.

We get a choice of 3, 4 (sedan) and 5 door. I chose 5 because it's so much easier to get into the back seats to get stuff out of the car. Tried the 3 and as "cool" as having 3 doors can be, I find it impractical to utilise the back seat space where I keep my work bags, etc in the foot area.

Function over form for me for everyday living.

YEA, im thinking this question is best asked in forums where people have bought competitive 5 door models. Afterall, if you bought a three door yaris you either prefer three doors or dont really demand 5, since there was plenty of 5 door competition. So maybe ask those people that chose 5 doors and you will see how they feel about a 5 door yaris and if it would have stolen sales from that competition that the 3 door was not able to.

Initially when I began looking at the Yaris I was hoping it came in a 5 door option. It's one of the few hatchbacks I've seen over the years that's nice to look at. As it is, I'm opting for the US Sedan to get the 4 doors. The 5 door LB would be sweet though...the best of both worlds, easy access for more than 2 people and the cargo space for some utility use. If the Scion liftback is out, I'd be very surprised if Yota doesn't make the 5 door Yaris an option here.

I would consider a Yaris 5-door hatchback for sure! Without it, I'd go for the Honda Fit before even considering going with a Yaris 3-door HB.

I always wonder if someone at Toyota actually looks at these web sites. I agree with everyone, the five door in the US would be a fantastic idea. My wife is pregnant, and I don't think that I want to reach back in to the backseat of a regualar two door, to wrestle our little baby out of a car seat.

I love my 3dr hatch, i love the sporty looking over the 5drs, i dont have kids, and i dont have many friends, or a big family, so 3dr is enought for me, im glad the US gets the 3dr insted of the 5rd, if that case, i may not have gotten a Yaris:cool:
