of the BLUE FLAME METALLIC base model S with the 5 speed manual . Notice the reflective tail lights . These have no temp gauge like that of the YARIS far as I can tell .

more pics. The clutch is very smooth along with precise shifting . Didn't hear any rattles . Seems tight . Rode quite well with not much tire noise . These have the KUMHO Solus KH 25s ' . Look like good aggressive tread .

and more pics ... . Spotter mirrors for those blind spots , they're power mirrors as well . There's no gas cap . Uses a membrane for easy fills and less emisions from the tank .

this is the m.p.g. average ( 45.3 ) we had when we arrived at the lot of the FORD dealer to take another look at the FIESTA . This was 2 of us , hills , average speed of 48 ( est. ) , low 80s' , SHELL 5w-30 conventional oil , and 89 octane . This is average m.p.g. ( 43.4 ) and mileage when arrived home . The E.C. is set at 98 so reads little less than the calculated mileage when refilled . If set at 99 it reads to high . So it's likely averaging little over 44 m.p.g. thus far  . There was a slight leak of the head gasket yet :frown: .

Leak at the head gasket? On a brand new car?

I don't like my spotter mirror right there. When I installed mine I put it over the portion of the mirror where you can see your car. Works perfectly!
How far do those seat fold down?

The two tone is great. . . surprising it is not flex fuel capable. The aging Yaris can handle E20 (Thai market Yaris). The interior is great too! I also love the separate high and low beam lights. . . I hate 9003/H4's with a passion and prefer separate high beams.
I can't wait to see the hatchback model.
And yes, PLEASE clarify on the head gasket leak!!!!

Leak at the head gasket? On a brand new car? The leak is on our 2008 YARIS sedan and 2010 3 door . Worse for the 2008 .There's several threads posted on it in the D.I.Y. section . Here they are www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28321 , www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28414 , and www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26502 .

Today I saw the new Ford Fiesta hatchback on the road for the first time ever. I'm really impressed with the styling. Now I may have to go to a local Ford dealership and look at one more closely

Don't mean to offend, but Ford could make their cars fly, make coffee, and give BJs, but they would still be Fords...sorry, I do not trust American anything (car-wise, that is).

Alot of domesitcs are now much more reliable and have better initial quality then japanese cars not to mention fuel mileage is usually better. Its not the 80's anymore cars are pretty even now in terms of quality and reliability.

the interior looks way nicer than a yaris it has more standard features more airbags and it averages better fuel mileage sounds like a win to me. what is the hp and curb weight figures?

I believe the 80s was when they made their cars well and 90s to now is when things are needing a tune up

I love that dope Mike Rowe on those commercials where the writing on the bottom says that initial satisfaction with Fords is better than Toyota. I see the key here as INITIAL. Hell, I can't think of any brand new cars I've owned that have broken down in the first year. Not even in the 70's, 80's, or 90's. But, I don't drive a car for 2 years and trade like many other people do. I drive them until the wheels fall off, and in every American car I have had, that has been well short of anything I can get out of a Toy. That's my own personal experience, having had nearly every American brand there was until finally running a 1979 Corolla for a couple hundred thousand miles and selling it to a guy who ran it that much more.
We had a 1998 Avalon that had 196,000 miles on it when I gave it to my daughter to drive. She still drives it everywhere every day. We never once had anything like a tuneup done on that car. Not one thing was ever done to it except a key switch had to be replaced several years ago. We changed the oil regularly and that is it. We did no scheduled maintenance BS.

fiesta is about 2500lbs and 120hp from a 1.6L
mazda2 is 2280lb and 100hp from a 1.5L
i think the interior is kinda ugly.
And sorry, initial quality is about as worthless as you can get. Ask them how they feel 5 years down the line, that is what matters.
Not to mention even then it is based completely on people's opinions, not facts.
I had a 96 SHO, and the car was awesome in every way. A friend had a Mercury Mystique, and oh my that car could handle. Ford is much better than GM/Chrysler, but until they give us the real sports car, and not just the mustangs, I highly doubt I'd ever buy another Ford again.

do you think your yaris is a sports car? gm and ford have built alot more performance cars than toyota ever has. take a ride in a real car with a v8 and some torque and it might change your mind about your economy car with 106hp that will get smoked by most mini vans.

whats your point my friend has an impala with 170k on it only thing he has done is a set of intake gaskets. I have had several jeeps with over 200k my current jeep has 160k on the clock and it runs like new.
The OP's cars both have leaking head gaskets thats not exactly good initial quality if you ask me most people on here who bash domestics have never had one they all think japanese cars are the best thing since sliced bread.
