Question about cutting the rear spring perches

A 350z came into my shop today with a strange request. Asked us to remove his rear spring perches and cut them in half. Only took a few minutes with a hacksaw. Dropped his car effectively 1 inch without having to cut his lowering springs. We cut the top part of the hat leaving the lower portion of the perch intact that keeps the spring centered.

Gave me the idea for the yaris if this is possible. Havent had a chance to look at our spring perches but i know they are kinda small. Has anyone attempted this. I think the top one you have atleast 1/4 of a inch you could remove. I think if there is a half a inch room in there to cut off the top this could effectively lower the rear to offset removing the spare tire to give you a even drop look without effecting your spring rate. I think its safer alternative than just removing the perch all entirely.

Something related to what you're talking about.....xA guys sometimes remove the upper rubber seat and wrap the top of the spring in thin tubing to prevent noise. That usually gives a 1/4 inch or better addtional drop. No cutting of anything is needed.

Its my understanding though the top rubber perch keeps the spring centered and prevents it from shifting around on the rebound.

you can take the rubber boot out and put water hose or coolant hose on the spring to stop noise. i did that on my camaro but it was a 3/4" spacer, not 1/4
