The recent thread about a NW Yari get together lead to the idea of starting a Meetup.com group for Yari Drivers in the Pacific Northwest. It's just for discussing and scheduling meets, someplace to firm up ideas started here. If you live in Washington, Oregon, Idaho or Western Canada please join us. If you live further away and love driving, you're welcome to join.

Northwest Coast Yaris (http://www.meetup.com/NWC-Yaris/)

The idea of a group day trip to Mt. Rainier is in the works. We are shooting for late August but nothing is set in stone yet.

Woot! Signed up! Looks like either weekend we choose will make it so someone can't go. Just started a new thread over on scionlife, lets see what interest and ideas they have.

I'm adding a poll, 21-22nd or 27-28th. I think Saturday for the main gig, with an option to camp Saturday night and move out Sunday. Started up a thread on scionlife too and there is interest.

EDIT: once I find out HOW to add a poll to an existing thread, lol.

I can make a poll on this thread if you tell me what you want the options to be. If you want to post up a poll on the NWCY Site, go for it. Having it two places might cause some confusion so let me know if you want it on this thread or not.

...and I'm SO close to having the system done too...

I just don't know if I can make it to this one.

I voted 28-29....but I could do 21-22 also....just seems if we push it out a bit we might get more yari on board.
FYI I'm gonna tag along with the scion group's run to Annie's pizza tomorrow, hope to meet some fun people with cool cars!

Sweet I'm sure you will, the scion crew are the most awesome, nice group of people you could ever meet. My gf and I wanted to go, but we had to work this entire weekend (although were BOTH getting paid $50/hr!) so sadly making gobs of money is more important right now, lol. Well, maybe we should just say the 28-29th. Now would this be better to do the main deal on saturday or sunday? I'm thinking Saturday.

Ok, I found the spot I went to 5 years ago and it's PERFECT for our cruise. The place I went to was called Sunrise, and is the highest point you can drive too at 6,400 feet. The White River Campground has a picnic area, camping (of course, it's a campground) and is 12 miles away. Maybe not the LONGEST cruise lol, but still should be a beautiful drive, provide some amazing views (the weather is prime this time of year), and good camping for those who are interested and still provide us a place to chow down, potluck style.

What do you guys think? I'm kinda new at planning an event.

Oh, here is the link to Sunrise
http://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/sunrise.htm

And the scion folks are super cool with the 28th for the main event.

We need to find a good way to direct everyone to the Yaris Meetup page so we can get a good head count. I have managed to get a few free items from a local company as give-aways ("Houdini AET" Autmotive Escape tools). If we can get a decent member count on the page it will make getting free stuff for future events easier.

I've been posting the link on other car related forums. Something we could do is go through the member list and PM everyone who is in the PNW. I've done it before with pretty good results, have gotten a few more members to attend who usually don't visit the forum often, but do get the PM emails.

Looks like were going to be taking both Yarii on the trip, towing our trailer with one and bringing our gas grill and some other stuff. My girlfriend is going to try and make some chili too.

What will everyone else be bringing?

Oh, were probably going to secure the campground late Friday.

We need a base spot, or a final meetup place before we head up the mountain. Ideas? I'll be coming from the Eastern side, through Yakima/Naches.

OHANAPECOSH is a good spot. Just before the park entrance.

OHANAPECOSH works for a meet place before we all head up. What time should that be?

Update: For my food contribution I'll be bringing hotdogs, chili, cheese fritters and maybe rice krispie treats.

My girlfriend should be there by then in my yaris (which you CAN'T miss, lol), I'll be following in later with her car with trailer. I think she's hoping for spot 20 so try to get one next to her

Change of plans for me guys...can't camp. I'll be making a day trip out of it. See you Saturday.

Just a heads up, my gf got stopped at a gate and wasn't allowed through until she paid $15, this was before the campground. Not sure where the $12/camp came from, or even if she has to pay another $12 to get the campground. I'm gonna be pissed if they make me pay $15 to get the 2nd car in, as were allowed 2 cars per spot.

I don't remember that being there a few years ago. I even paid the extra fee on my tabs this year to keep the parks open.

Astroman

Found this:
Entrance Fees
The entrance fee is $15 for a private, noncommercial vehicle or $5 for each visitor 16 and older entering by motorcycle, bicycle, horseback, on foot, or for individuals traveling together as a non-commercial, organized group. These fees provide the visitor with a 7-day entrance permit for Mount Rainier National Park.
