Did you searched the threads first?
I think some or all don't come with it, I know my sedan doesn't have it

Many Yarii came without that. You can buy the Toyota one, or for a few dollars you can make several from a furnace air filter. There is a DIY, I'll try to find it.

The US Yaris is not suppose to come with one.

you can make your own, it's easy:

(I think there are two threads going on this, maybe a Mod can merge them?)

I have made my own (bailouts thread) and glad that I did. Change them every 5,000 miles and suprised at how dirty they become.

Most come without it. There is a DIY to cut up a furnace filter (makes several replacements) for super cheap.

After 45 years of driving cars with no cabin air filter and since i drive with windows down most of the time this cabin airfilter is just a money making gimmick for the dealer or auto parts companies. I drive without one.

My 2007 didn't have one from the factory.

I put one in myself as I feel it keeps some of the dirt from getting into the heating system.
I found it amusing when I got a Change your Cabin Air Filter deal coupon from my dealer.

My 2010 didn't, but there's quite a few diy posts on our forum, which I followed. Here's a few;

OK, that is definately an opinion based on your perceptions.
However most do find a cabin filter very worthwhile.

If your air is so clean perhaps you are also wasting money on engine air filters and they are a scam?

My car didn't come with a Cabin Air Filter. I didn't realize it until I was at 10,000 miles and I went to change it. It only cost $12 and the delear wanted to charge $40. It is really easy to do yourself!!

Not saying the air is clean but that air filter isnt doing anything to make the air in the car cleaner if i'm driving with widows open.

In my time lurking these forums it seems nobody got an air filter with their Yaris. I had assumed I was among the masses without one.

Last night I checked, after purchasing one off eBay, and lo and behold I have a filter! It wasn't as dirty as I'd have expected either, especially after over 2 years of use.

There is the possibility it was installed when I had my 32000km maintenance done in the spring. I will check my receipts, but the total bill was reasonable and less than I expected and I'm pretty sure a cabin filter wasn't among the charges. It was around $150 which included an oil change, winter->summer wheel/tire changeover, brake cleaning, and a few other things.

At the very least, it can prevent anything from falling into the fan and/or getting clogged in your ducts.
You can get one for as little as $12US. It's cheap insurance.

Anyway, I would wager that there are some times when you do roll the windows up. Let's be honest here.

Mine did not have one when new, but I talked the dealer into giving me one.

After seeing how dirty it gets in just 10K miles, I'm sold on how nice they work. I get 'em at pepboys for $12.

So does anyone know why we were ripped off over a $12 filter?

yarrr
07-28-2010, 12:36 AM
I made 4 for under 10 dollars. I don't really feel ripped off, I notice no difference with a filter in. Maybe they wanted the A/C to feel that 5% stronger in test drives.

Somewhere along the line a Toyota accountant said, "hey we can save X ammount of Yen per year if we no longer include the cabin filter in places like Noth America".

That is the polite answer.

I just bought my car a week ago, it has no cabin filter or no filter above the blower fan I had no idea until recently. I'm going to play around with an old furnace filter and see what I can create to replace filters the car did not come with.

Same here, I just realized that mine came with out one. I'm actually looking into making a couple from an old furnace air filter, the problem is its old so I may have to buy a newer one that will work better, does Toyota sell these furnace filters for a reasonable price?

why?
10-31-2010, 10:37 PM
furnace filter comes cheaply from wal mart or home depot.

I know this is off the topic but I thought I should share this, when I went to change my cabin filter it was there but it had a plastic glove, strange stuff but I went to the dealer and for free they changed the blower to make sure nothing was affected by the plastic, also because I didn't go there as a happy camper if you know what I mean, but now I am.

Is a cabin filter related to a sky hook?
Never heard of it until I saw this thread.

I just checked mine, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a filter in there! I just bought my car used in August. The car came as is with no A/C, so I made the dealer install an A/C unit at half price. I'm pretty amazed that they actually put in a filter and didn't cut corners...unless they cut corners elsewhere??? Now I'm making myself paranoid!

Out here dealer gets $59 to put one in!
I buy mine at PepBoys for $11.99.

the first time i opened my cabin filter box there was a ziploc baggie in there, but no filter. the sandwich bag was pretty filthy, however, so i guess it did capture *some* dirt  !

point to story - even if you don't plan on installing a cabin filter you should check the box anyways to see if there's anything in there that could be blocking airflow. it's easy to access - just pop your glovebox off it's hinges(instructions are in the manual) and VIOLA!!!!

I made six my first time using bailout's thread for $12 and some of my time. I grabbed the wrong size this last time but I still got 4 of them. Which reminds me, I need to change mine again.
