hello all... i just got a new car now looking for engine oil ..very confusing dont know which one to get ..any suggestion please?

I use AMSOIL 5W-30 in mine, but I don't know what is available in Australia. Sorry.

Royal Purple 5W30 in mine.

You can't go wrong with either amsoil or RP but I would stick with those 2.

Castrol GTX 5w30 in mine... with Fram Toughguard filter (7500mile/12000km)

I might switch to Castrol GTX High Mileage 5w30 once I crack 100000 miles.

Ok....here's what's going to happen. You're going to get a different answer with each post. Everyone has their favorite oil and filter. There is no "best" oil. There will be an argument or 2 about which oil "better"...usually from the synthetic users...my oil can beat up your oil type stuff. Then after a few days the thread will probably be locked. No worries though, as a new one will pop up right behind it.

So...go to your favorite store and find some 5w-20 and a filter and be happy. Any and all modern oils (dino and synth) will protect your engine just fine for 5000 miles (however many KMs that is). The most important thing is to follow the recommened intervals and proper oil weight.

Oh...and for the record...I've used Castrol GTX and a PureOne filter on all of my cars for as long as I can remember.

Now excuse me...as I go pop some popcorn and sit back and watch another oil thread "evolve". :smoking:

Any compitent mechanic will tell you that most all modern oils are basically the same and the important thing is to just change it frequently.

BTW, as I understand it "high milage" oil is just oil with some added detergents to help clear out sludge. However if you change it often you will not have sludge to begin with. :smile:

I've noticed in various posts,that alot of folks "seem" to frown upon Toyota engine oil (Dino)....why is that?. Even the Dealership I bought my Yaris from uses Kendall?. Bulk oil rates perhaps?. TIA

^ correct. Dealerships do not get am much of a kickback with the Toyota branded lubricants as they can with others.

I run Amsoil Dominator Racing oil, but if I weren't boosted I would run their EA 5-20 Signature Series. One of the main reasons why I choose Amsoil is that they are constantly looking for better ingredients for their lubricant formulas whereas most competitors have the same one for too many years to count just raking in the cash. Another obvious reason is the tremendous change interval. The 1nz can go 15k miles or 1 year between changes. This translates to an overall cost savings for many folks as well as time in maintenance.

As stated above however these oil specific threads are useless and overly abundant.

Napa is my choice. I find that Napa synthetic (which is made by Valvoline) is cheaper than non-synthetic big brand oils.

Anyways.. Dealers in my area, including most of the garages that buy oil in bulk use mostly Castrol GTX. If you ask for Synthetic, you probably going to end up with Mobil1.

But i'd say either oil is fine. Just change your oil on schedule based on Toyota schedule. More often if you drive under extreme conditions.

I used to use RoyalPurple, because i want synthetic oil in my engine, and it cost almost the same price to get it in specialized shops compared to mobil1 in retail stores.

5w30, whatever is on sale and name brand.....semi syn or syn is better, but, I save monies....I do use only Toyota F2 filters though....Been using the 5w30 mobil super 5000 as of late....walmart has it for 14.73 here in the SE USA

From my experience, 5W-30 gives better fuel economy and power,
while 0W-40 makes the engine run noticeably more quiet.

I regularly use Mobil 1 5W-30, with 10,000 km (~6,200 miles) changing interval.

Okay. For what it's worth...with my 2009, I used Mobil 1 5W-30 after the first 10,000 miles...I never had a problem I needed to have repaired, but I was getting some interesting engine sounds that resembled a lifter issue. Performance wasn't affected that I could tell, and the Toyota dealer told me to just run it. Digging in before a failure would cost money and maybe cause more problems than they'd find.

I continued with Mobil 1 until I sold it at 79,000 miles. I figured with a deer collision, high-siding a traffic island, four winters, and towing a motorcycle trailer, as well as being towed on a dolly for three thousand miles...it was time to quit while I was ahead.

The 2012 I bought under the Toyota program that includes free oil changes; so so far, with 14,000 miles on it, it's only had the dealer's mineral oil. No issues. When that program runs out, I'll switch to Mobil 1...be interesting to see if I get the engine clatter again.
