View Full Version : What does your username mean?

ChinoCharles
12-08-2006, 01:43 PM
I always see all of your usernames and wonder what a lot of them mean... soooo why don't we all share.

Mine is easy... Chino is the lead singer of the Deftones (my favorite band) and Charles is my name.

Your turn.

LOFL!!!

all in good fun friend, all in good fun.

acrbill was my screen name on the first forum I ever signed up for. It was a Dodge Neon forum and I had a ACR model Neon and my name is Bill.
I like the name so I use it on all but 1 forum I visit.

When I first signed up for this site I used another name but I quickly had it changed because it seemed too strange having a different name.

vodkalush

I started a drink oriented website in college, and at the time I had the habit of drinking a handle of vodka from the handle in almost any given night; so being just that "vodka lush", I created the name for the site, and its stuck with me.

Ran Kizama
12-08-2006, 04:12 PM
Ran Kizama

乱 (Ran) - Was my nickname in high school and is also the first three letters of my last name. Ran came about as a joke from my football coach because I was the fastest WR on our team. He would call "Ran-man" for some reason. :iono: It just kinda stuck. Coincidentally, the first anime I ever saw was Green Legend Ran.

きざま (Kizama) - This part of my name came way later. I'm not entirely sure where this came from to be honest. My friends speculate that it came from Jin Kazama of the Tekken fighting game series, but I'd never heard of Tekken until the 3rd game and I'd had this name way before that time. Others think it comes from Shin Kazama of the Area 88 anime that I had watched when I was younger. That may hold more truth to it.

There's my dorkfest in a nutshell.

大天二

Cantonese pronunciation: dai teen yee
Mandarin pronunciation: da tian er (this pinyin might be incorrect)

A character from the Teddy Boy comics from Hong Kong.

Significance?
A friend introduced me to the comic a when I was a punk. To my surprise, I had the exact same look and hairstyle as the character in the comic, right down to an imitation rocket joe jacket that the character wore in a few issues (mine was also fake).

Galavoxx
12-08-2006, 06:22 PM
galavoxx

Made it up while in college. I needed a hotmail address and Randy Shelton was already taken. I recall looking around my dorm room for some inspiration. All I found was a crappy audiovoxx cassette player and an album called Gala by the british dream pop band Lush (early to mid 90's). Galavoxx was born. I later translated it as "new voice" and still use it for my handle, err screen name for everything. :iono:

very first screen name from the days of the original AOL ("you've got mail", for the younger folks that never had to deal with dial-up modems and missed phone calls). static = standing still; stationary; lacking motion; since i'm the laziest person you'll meet, but just remember that lazy doesnt necessarily mean stupid. in my case, it only means stupid SOMETIMES (high school valedictorian, mensa inductee, engineering grad, certified math teacher). 808 = BOB, my nickname. the only time i get called robert is when i'm in trouble with the mom or the wifey...

12-10-2006, 03:33 PM
ECHOKnight2000 was inspired by the 80's TV show Knight Rider, I'm a big fan. The car on there was the Knight Industries Two Thousand or K.T.T. so I thought I adopt the Knight2000 and ECHO and felt it went together, plus my car being two door and black. Yes I know its not a Trans-Am:laugh:   Maybe in another life...

Violin
12-11-2006, 08:19 AM
Mine came from another hobby of mine - backpacking.

It is traditional, especially on the Apalachian Trail, to have a trail name.

On one trip, my crummy old boots gave out and were tearing my feet up pretty bad. When I complained, one of my companions told me to play a sad, sad song on my violin.

The name stuck and I've used it on internet forums too, starting with backpacking forums.

BailOut
06-01-2007, 03:27 AM
Mine comes from a complex feeling of always having to bail out of mainstream American things.

I bailed out of using credit for everything.

I bailed out of the bullshit certification path for my IT career as they don't mean anything.

I bailed out of the military once I could no longer stand what we were being used for.

I bailed out of Paramedicine when I realized it is more political than scientific or realistic.

I bailed out of using as much electricity as I want.

I bailed out of using as much natural gas as I want.

I bailed out of using as much fuel as I want.

I bailed out of driving like a jerk.

I bailed out of inefficient cars.

I bailed out of sending most of my waste to the landfill.

After you've bailed out of enough things you may as well just call yourself BailOut.

06-01-2007, 03:28 PM
my wife has a cat with no tail, just a stub, a young kid asked her what his name was, and even though his name is fernando, she told the kid his name was "stubby", the child thought she said "stuffy" and he kept repeating the name and for some reason he just sounded hilarious saying "stuffy" over and over again.
when i created my account on this site, fernando was laying next to me at the computer and it just popped into my head for some reason.

sort_o_sane
06-01-2007, 05:40 PM
Mine is from a mistake when a friend was teaching me to drive stick back in the early 90's. His car was a supercharged 5.0 that got up and hauled ass. He decided that since I was getting the hang of driving a stick we should go somewhere and have some fun.
So we hop on the freeway, I had the car going 95mph and his radar was going off. He told me to down shift and pull up the e-brake so that what ever cop was watching didn't see brake lights. Not realizing how tight his ebrake was I locked up the back tires, we start fish tailing and finally go into full 360 spins. For some unknown reason we didn't hit anything, traffic came to a halt, and we were facing the wrong way. My friend looks at me with this "I just shit my pants" look and I said "That was fun can we do it again?"
Since then when ever I get in a car people refer to me as sort o' sane. Sadly enough tho I never got to drive his car again. I hate Fords because of personal experiences with the falling apart while I drive them, but I liked his.

fnkngrv = Funk and Groove. It was my DJ handle when I used to spin vinyl...and no not the siding:bellyroll: Ok..ok...I know, bad joke. My favorite DJ had always been BadBoyBill if anyone out there knows House muzik. I had always wanted to try spinning myself, but never really had the nerve to put in the effort until Banging the Box Volume One was released. When I found out via a homemade video, from a spinoff Bill was in that he was doing all that with real vinyl and turntables, I was hooked.

Funny thing about this nick is that I was able to get that as my license plate in VA : FNKNGRV....I moved back to Maine and the hag at the DMV gave me a look of shock when I put in my request and she said that they don't allow such profany on a plate:bellyroll: :bellyroll: :bellyroll: ... I told her....it means Funk and Groove...not Fucking Groove you Fucking Moron. :stupid: :bonk: Needless to say she told me to leave and come back when I had a nicer mouth:thumbdown: :bellyroll:

When I was in college, my roommate and I bought a 1979 Civic project car. When I graduated, I moved about 500 miles away to Milwaukee, WI. I rented a moving truck and a trailer for the old Civic. Before we moved the car, we wrote (with black electrical tape) ALL MOTOR across the back of the car, and the numbers "39" on the side (I don't know why, we just picked a number) as a joke (the car had 65 hp or so). We trailered the car down to Milwaukee and ended up selling it. However, I've always used 39 as my number for autocross, and such.

saw nothing in the forum rules about reviving old threads - some forums dont allow this

sqcomp
03-30-2016, 11:58 PM
sqcomp - Sound quality competitor.

It leads me back to my passion of reproducing the best quality sound that I can possibly recreate with the material at hand. From the best recording techniques, to the best possible recording files, all the way to the best equipment and methods for installation of a sound system that I can manage to recreate or afford.

I competed at the highest levels in IASCA (and USACi) in 2010-2012. I've seen the best, most involved systems out there. I've seen the best and the worst of people who want a 6' trophy saying that they're a world champion.

At this point, I've moved past competition due to the ego and corruption-light in the system of judging in IASCA. It's much more rewarding to simply go to car shows and talk to like minded people with a passion for cars that may have their ears opened with spectacular sound reproduction.

My handle, Tarkus, is the name of a mythical beast with the body of a WW1 tank and the head of an armadillo, the subject of a piece of music by one of my favorite rock bands. In the story, Tarkus goes to battle and eventually overcomes the evil Manticore.

I challenge anyone to try and beat that one. LOL (Yes, I need help)
