This is really the beginning of the end. I'm waiting on the dynamat to get here. Probably arrive in about 4 hours or so. Decided to go ahead and strip my baby :wub:

After reading some healthy discussions about sound deadening materials I don't think I'll be trying to cover every square inch of sheet metal. I'll put up some more pics after the procedural work is done :drinking:

Hopefully I'll be done with this kind of work for good after this! I haven't decided if I want to try to do the doors yet or not. The Fatmat I put on the back half of the car is melting in the Texas summer sun :eek: found a couple tiny puddles under the carpet where it ran down the sides. I'm afraid to take off the side panels and check out the extent of the damage. So I might find something else for the doors.

So 35 sq ft of dynamat and a gallon of sweat later, the sun has set and I have a iPhone camera with no flash. The best pic I could get was some sparkle off the shiny backing of the dynamat from the flashlight. So no after pics... But I took it for a spin and noticed a little less road noise. It wasn't as much as I was hoping for, guess I'll be doing the doors sometime.

You may already know this... the dynamat will reduce vibration. if you want to reduce noise you will need to get a Mass Loaded Vinyl barrier down. MLV acts like the big cement barrers that go along the freeway. blocks sound. To the extent that the vibrating metal in your car is producing noise the dynamat will kill that. to block out road noise... that's the job of MLV. you can also use a Closed Cell Foam (CCF) to absorb some of the remaining noise as well.

I'll check it out.. when it cools off in texas. I'm sick of working in 100+ heat while sun cooks me alive in my black yaris :(
