Hello everyone, only had the Yaris for 6 days and it's already causing me white hairs!
This week end, I moved the car to the back of my driveway to make some space.
This morning, I try to start the car, all lights go on as usual, go off as usual, try to start, and nothing (the starter didn't spin). Try again twice, same thing. there I thought it must be the immobiliser, and since I cleaned my key, I might have damaged it. I go get the spare, same thing!
I think "what the heck", open the bonnet, and don't see anything wrong. close the bonnet, try again, and it starts first try! Move out of the driveway, stop the engine, start again, and works again.
Anyone knows what went wrong? Was the bonnet not fully closed (although it wasn't fully opened, it went "clonk" when I pulled the lever to open it) and the car won't start if it isn't? Or is it something else? :help:
Now I feel like I'm going to be stranded one of these days!

What about battery contacts ? aren't they loose and closing the bonnet have moved them to the better position ? just try could be something else:iono:

Well I never touched the contacts, and when I checked under the bonnet, they seemed to be ok. I was hoping someone would say "oh yes, there's a switch on the bonnet that prevents the engine starting", but I never heard of that. Besides we DO need to be able to run the engine with the bonnet opened at times don't we? :)

there is no switch in the bonnet that will prevent the engine from start :(

the only switch with does this is the one on the clutch (at least I have a switch there and unless the clutch is pushed you won't be able to start )

do you have auto or manual trans?

Of course! I took the habit to push the clutch ages ago, so when the guy told me at the garage and I used it over the week/weekend, I've always pushed the clutch. I remember dismissing the tip at the garage saying "bah, I do it anyway" but I must have forgotten this morning! And when I tried with the other key, I tried from the passenger side, so didn't push the clutch obviously!
Thanks henry33, problem sorted, the problem was between the seat and the driving wheel!
