They should drop a bag full of ketchup on their cars right at the end for added realism.

I think it's stupid. Someone wrote that they should have painted an M1 Abrams Battle Tank instead

I think some old dear is going to have a heart attack, and then their kids will sue.
+1 for the Abrams....

why?

totally stupid. Especially the last part,"As for drivers who become can't process optical illusions, Dunne argued that they have no business on the road in the first place.

"It's a static image," he said. "If a driver can't respond to this appropriately, that person shouldn't be driving, and that's a whole different problem."

Just for saying that the dude should be fired.

It doesn't say if they've tested this at all, I bet they haven't. Who knows what effect it could have on people with certain eye conditions that leave them with good vision, but makes them see certain things differently.

is it just me, I can't seem to locate the speed bump, the pic is at a bad angle....

the entire road surface looks flat to me....the lower parts like the shoes look elongated...weird...

::EDIT::
just read the article, ok so it is just an image and no real speed bump.... Original posters thread title is kind of misleading but not their fault...

I think this is the most stupid thing ever. To me, all this is saying is that it's ok to run over children as long as you do it slowly.

^ unless you're the type to hit the gas when you see that.

Exactly. It might actually have the opposite effect. Now drivers will become less sensitive to braking when seeing children in the middle of the road, real or not.

Lots of emergency brakings leading to lots of rear crashes- how can that be better than a regular speed bump?

^ what is an emergency brake? Are you talking the parking brake?

I'm pretty sure he means emergency brakings as in braking quickly in the instance of an emergency.

I guess society doesn't value or respect human life?

Running over time after time of an image of a child? WTF! This is a mentally sick idea! What is this world coming to?

Reports on some local red light cameras have shown that rear end crashes have gone up, and more than accidents from people running red lights have gone down since the cameras were installed.

They really should of made the concrete raised & conformed in the shape of the kid so when you run it over it actually would feel like it.
Then it would scare the crap out of the driver.

With motion sensors that activate a speaker letting out a little girl's scream. THEN the ketchup packets.

lol just strap unneeded children to the road, that'd do the trick.

wow, lot of controversy over something so stupid.

look people, this is private property. the owners of the building can decide what they want to do and where. if there's a wreck the individuals involved are solely responsible for whatever happens...even the police can't get involved. they're just mediators.

any way, who cares? are you ever going into that building? when you freak out, swerve into oncoming traffic or off the edge of the building, end up with some dibilitating condition then you can gripe about it till ur tongue falls out...otherwise...i dont really care either way what happens...keep griping or dont, up to you.

any way, i think it's a better idea than a bunch of words like slow, or caution that's painted in boring yellow that noone pays attention to any way.

So local town officials are now in charge of a public school that is somehow private property?

Don't think so.

That picture is an example of what it will look like. The BC Government is planning on implementing those images on all school zones and busy traffic areas. Problem right now is that this isn't going to do jack, since there's so much coverage regarding this. Once people know where image, they are going to be going their regular speed the next day.

This won't work unless the government decides to change the image every day.

...what? Wal Mart is private property. A corporation owns that crap. PUBLIC schools are PUBLIC (ie gov't) property. 2 completely different things.

Oh, so you're saying that if I kick someone's butt in my garage (private property) the police won't get involved???

Hmmm...
