The socket the says "radio" is the one I want to plug the aerial in to. However, my radio antenna harness looks like this.

What do I need to buy to plug it in? :iono:

You need some kind of adapter, I have tried to find adapter, but no luck :(

I have never seen one of those radio connectors before. In a worst case, to install an aftermarket radio you might have to cut off the OEM coax end and solder on one of the standard tips.

Sorry but sounds like you're out of luck.

If CTScott have never seen one before, there's a very good chance the adapter you seek does not exists (yet)

A good stereo shop should be able to make an adapter for you.

When ctscott says I dunno you are screwed.

Only way is to cut solder modify yourself.

AHA! I believe that is called a din connector and so you need this maybe?

Only problem I foresee is there appear to be several types...

Damn, if I got one up on CT, this will be a day of days.......

The standard one is a DIN type. The OEM one is similar to that SMART one and similar to a KIA one I found yesterday, but I haven't seen an actual Toyota specific one.

Actually, CTScott gave me the advice on this. Basically, what you should do is simply take out the larger connector out of the harness so you end up with this:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/Jitzyre/11092010037.jpg

Then rip off the end and stick in a standard radio jack (I got mine from the scrap yard and just cut it out of the first car that I saw with the radio missing and the plug hanging out, though you could just buy a car radio antenna extension for next to nothing and just cut the end off there)

Just connect the white metal surroundings together and the small little copper wires together and it'll work (Don't let the white touch the little one in the middle though!).

Hope this helps anyone who ever comes pass this thread and thanks again to CTScott .

LOL, I knew it was too good to be true...

One more thing I found out is that for you people who are scared of solder and ripping off the ends off things, you can buy the extension wire and take of the jack end of that again.

However, this time simply put the middle copper wire through the hole of the OEM connector in the picture and connect the white wire around it to the outer metallic shell of the OEM connector.

Just use some insulating tape to keep everything firmly in place. This did indeed work for me but having everything connected properly just felt safer.

If you do use this method make sure you keep the little round fuse ball-thing in the OEM connector exposed as it does seem to heat up when using the radio!

Jitazuki, was it the double-din eBay headunit you were installing? If so, mind giving your quick impression of the HU over at to the double-din thread (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28867)?

Jitazuki, Did you get the AM tuner working, do you have AM reception?
