Wow, no one mentioned having their phone with them. It is probably the most important piece of equipment you can have with you in a car...
And it took 14 posts before anyone mentioned a GPS? I'm with ChrisJ, I don't go anywhere without mine. It's pretty much the second most important thing to have.
Plus, only two folks mentioned a camera? It can be very useful, especially after an accident. But most phones these days have both a GPS and a camera, making a phone even more important!
As for guns, as I work on a US military installation, that's out despite the fact that Texas law allows anyone who is not a convicted felon or involved in criminal activity to carry concealed in a car. But if you have a concealed handgun license, you can carry most anywhere!

My GPS is in my phone (Google Nav. ftw!!! :woot:) and I *never* leave it in the car. As a matter of fact, I leave as little as possible in my car and always assume that whatever is in the car may be stolen by the time I return to the car.
but I do leave:
a couple of maps of SF and the Bay Area (you never know)
kleenexes
purell
tire pressure gauge
pen and paper
gloves (heavy duty)
some change for the meter (not much)
some rags and paper towel
auxiliary cable for my iPod (but never the iPod)
cheap tools (multifunction screw drivers, etc.)
a bunch of reuseable large grocery bags to haul groceries in
a couple of lightweight blankets for when I haul stuff in the back of the car
alchool wipes
oh, I almost forgot... a baseball bat. (don't ask)
I think that's it. I used to keep a flashlight in there but kept forgetting to change the batteries. Probably should keep one you can just crank up.

I forgot... I made copies of my CD's and leave the copies in the glove box in case there is nothing good on the radio.
I don't leave my insurance car and registration in the car but I do have it in my wallet. In CA they put too much information on it, much more than I want to give a burglar (my cars were vandalized and broken in many times, so I guess it now dictates what I leave in the car and what I keep on me. I don't even leave the garage opener in the car. It's small and goes on my key ring with me.)

i find that it's usually people in the most rural of areas that really really really love their guns. at least thats the case here. most people claim that it's for hunting purposes. cause who doesn't need a semi automatic weapon to hunt? others are more up front and admit they are preparing for the next revolution. make of that what you will. i'll leave out my opinion so as not to make this political. merely pointing out what i observe in my area.

not trying to poke fun at you or anything like that , but man do you live in a war zone or something: "some spare mags and ammo" I would think after the first fatal shot the attacker would get the point. just curious thats all
Well I do live right beside a load of meth dealers that like to rob the houses, cars, and people in the neighborhood. There's a trailer park right behind my house loaded with meth (they were cooking Sunday night actually). Other than that the area isn't real high crime, but I've had people attempt to rob me twice, and both times a pistol thwarted the attempt. I just like to be prepared :)

hokay fair enough:thumbsup:
i like guns but only for non-living target practice. Actually going up with my best bud up north for some sniping with his 1942 Lee-Enfields.....love that rifle....
They should make the MK-19 home legal...I would rock one of those in my trunk and have to replace something out of my ten to add that.

I do a lot of small game hunting but mostly I target shoot. I love running drills with pistols, it's good times! Enfields are great rifles. I don't currently own any, but I've got 2 old Mosin-Nagants :)
You can buy a MK-19, you'll just have to apply for the appropriate FFL and have a LOT of money to burn haha.

where did you score the Nagants ? thats a good reliable rifle too, maybe not as refined and smooth as the Enfield or the Garand but still
Gotta watch out with some older Enfields, though. Apparently some have had barrels let go (explode) through micro-cracking from improper storage conditions.
I know the ones that came into Woolworths in the mid-80's were appallingly badly kept - the bore looked like a dirt road before grading.
I shot one at school for years, well worked over by Parker-Hale for target use - bedded, re-barreled, etc. 10" groups at 500 yards were normal.
hokay fair enough:thumbsup:

Me too! Enfields are nice.
My two favorites that I own are:
1) 1917 P17 Eddystone (.30-06)... matching
2) 1942 M/38 (Type II) Husqvarna Vapenfabriks Swedish Mouser (6.5 x 55) ... matching
The Swedish gun is the most accurate military rifle round I have shot!
I also have a 1943 Smith-Corona M03A3 with all matching parts that I like very much. Except the gun dealer sold it without the original stock... :frown: It has a wood Fagen floating military stock.
I use to collect WWI and WWII rifles...
Cheers!

It's not just that, it's this little paragraph in our Constitution that states...
...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
So basically, in this country and given the state's permission, you really don't need a "reason" to carry. It is what we like to call a "God-given right" for free men...:headbang:

Mosins are pretty common down here, you can pick up a round receiver 91/30 via mail order for under $100US delivered if you have an 03 Federal Firearms License (FFL) which allows folks like myself collect curios & relics (mainly specific, unaltered firearms 50 years old or older).
I love the old Mosins, and have 21 of them (yep, I said twenty-one). They are great bolt-action rifles and a blast to shoot, and the shorter carbine versions (M44s and M38s) make nice fireballs when you shoot them at dawn or dusk! :w00t:
But, as my old friend Ordell Robbie once said, "AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively, have to kill every single motherfucker in the room; accept no substitute!"
