Auto tranny drain plug

that's one flat looking plug - is it for draining the tranny fluid?

or do you have to remove the entire pan?(tedious task)

Also, after draining , how much new fluid should I put back in? (think the manual states 2.6 quarts that the tranny holds - How much generally gets retained? I'm thinking at least 1 quart....)

honestly, your best bet would be to take it where they have the proper flush equipment... when flushed correctly, fluid level ends up where it should be...

when doing a drain/fill on an a/t, you often end up only getting part of the fluid... don't get the torque converter, and the tranny cooler...


edit... just went looking through TIS, and if your vehicle has WS fluid, which it should, system is stating that fluid should not ever need replacement... it says fluid will be good for life of vehicle...

however, a flush at 100k couldn't hurt, but i would not do this before...

I just changed my fluid about 2-3 weeks ago. I believe I used 2.6 or 2.9 quarts to refill.
3 quarts should be sufficient incase you need a pinch extra, etc.

You can use Toyota WS fluid but it's like $8 a quart if I remember right from the stealership. I myself bought the Walmart Supertech trans fluid for $3.50 a quart.
It's a proper replacement fluid for a multitude of vehicles, including Toyota WS required trannys. So far, the fluid has been awesome. Shifting is smooth and on point. No regrets at all.
