First of all my car has no fog lights, bought it stock from the dealership 12 kms.
Is there anyway of telling if it has wiring for fog lights? And is there any way I could get it done cheaper?
The dealership wants 1,100$ to get foglights in and thats if it has wiring how bad am I getting fucked?
help please, thanks.

$1,100??? Holy sh*t. They wanted like $350 to put foglights in mine. My guess is... if there isn't a foglight switch in your cabin then there probably isn't wiring. That's just a guess though. Might be worth finding out by opening up the fog light cover and seeing if there's a harness back there. I may do this in a few lol

When I had my other yaris sedan, I bought a set of fogs from somebody here on the forums for about $80 (including shipping from Japan) and a local shop installed them here for $60...total= $140.
Yeah, you might be getting ripped off.

I went the "OEM-look" route and it cost about...
$89 Foglight Kit from MicroImage (http://shop.microimageonline.com/Headlights-taillights-and-fog-lights_c28.htm)
$121 OEM Toyota headlight stalk
$54 OEM Foglight shrouds (now come with MicroImage kit)
----
$264
If you feel comfy doing it yourself, it's much cheaper! My Toyota dealer priced getting it done at the dealership at about $750.
I'm no expert on sedans, but I think that they are all pre-wired for foglights... maybe CTScott knows?

Mine wasn't pre-wired I don't think. I was told that I was missing some sort of harness piece inside the car, but they were somehow able to work around that.

Not to sound like an ass... but, if you don't have fog lights, there isn't going to be a switch... Why would Toyota spend money putting a switch in your car that does nothing?
Pre-wired in this case means that there the appropriate connections from the engine bay to the cabin so you don't have to run wires through the firewall. Like so:
Fog lights > wired into engine-side box > pre-wired through firewall > wired to switch of your choice.
You do the italicized stuff and the bold stuff is already done by Toyota.
(Again, I'm no expert on sedans, wiring, or all things Yaris, so, if need be someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

The guy told me it would be wired to something I'm guessiing the interior lighting switch.
1,056.78$ was my quotes total and said I needed to be checked for the wiring if there is wiring then it would be 750 dollars with everything.
So I pop off the plastic and look for something? I was also thinking of ebaying a set of fogs or something then just paying them to install it, won't void any warranty will it?

They probably want to connect it so that it will be tied in with your nighttime driving lights.

Yeah basically, no reason to have them on during the day anyways I guess.

Got mine for $89 from Garm. Getting installed on the 30th by a shop for $100. $189.00...done. Mine will be wired to the park lights, as I wished. I have all the wiring and switch to put on the console between the seats, but that is extremely inconvenient for me, as they WOULD get left on...no doubt. Having them come on with the park lights is perfect, because I am reminded to turn those off.

Buy the kit from garm. Take off bumper. Install fogs. Run wire into engine fusecompartment. Plug in relay into drivers side fusebox inside cabin. Tap two wires together at ignition stalk. Done.
For locations of engine wiring and inside relay there are directions with the kit. For the 2 wire tap ctscott knows which two. This will allow fogs to come on with parkers.

this community is more gung ho ready to try wiring anything than just about anywhere else i have ever seen.
Of course having a master of it like CtScott around to help doesn't hurt.

The reason I'm having mine done is I am not comfortable removing the bumper. Besides, I'm having 3 dings taken out while it's in the shop, and am just getting the fogs installed at the same time. I have the Dr. Evil Mentality about lots of things. I will just take the car in and assume that everything will go according to plan!
One less hassle for me.

Yeah I rather pay for it aswell, but 1 grand is so much, any idea what i'd save if I ebayed a set of lights or something

Dude, there is like 2 wires you plug into one of the harness in an empty slot, in the fuse box under the hood. You don't even have to splice or anything as the wires have the proper connector pins on the ends.
Then you plug a little box into the inside fuse panel called a relay.
After that, you unscrew 3 screws to get at the ignition harness and use a plastic quick connect to tap 2 wires together.
Taking off the bumper is, what, 7 or 8 small bolts?
Take about 30 minutes, max.
Go ahead and pay $1000. How about I come and do it for $500?
You live anywhere near PA?

I think that was some dealer price or something someone got quoted. I feel like the labor of $100 is fair. The shop I'm taking the car to has done them before, so I guess they know. I just want to make sure they get them installed on the park lights.

Having someone else do it is a good idea. I remember when I did that with my tach, the shop had to run around to a few places trying to find the wiring diagram. So glad I didn't have to figure that out myself.

And you wouldn't need to as ctscott has shown exactly which wires need tapped.

And speaking from my experience in the Army, NW PA is not the butthole of the US... Alabama and Missouri come to mind...

um yea, CtScott wasn't registered when I put in my tach in june of 2006.
And really even if he was, I would of payed someone else to do it. I just don't have the tools.

Kevin,
You can either buy one of the kits from Garm or go the eBay route really. Garm will back up the product. Your best best is to PM Brian here if you choose to buy the kit from Garm to hear about any "gotchas" if there are any. The projector kit that Garm sells seems to be really high quality. You can then have some third party aftermarket styling shop do the install and it should cost a couple hundred at most if you don't feel that you are qualified to perform the work. Like sleey0 said the sedan at least has a way to plug directly into the factory stalk which is convenient. The biggest hassle for me was having to take apart the bumper assembly twice since the kit I bought (eBay) came with a pad projector. On the up side, the kit that I bought came with OEM bezels so they fit 100% whereas there have been several folks that bought them and it didn't come with correct bezels....the fitment was just "ok". Either way, I would take it to a shop that does restyling and custom installs in vehicles rather than a mechanic. The biggest reason I suggest that is that mechanic shops tend to get your interior much more dirty than one of those other shops. Just my 2 cents.

Oh yeah this guy is looking to be banned off of YW BTW, like the guys were commenting to help your best option is to get the fogs off Garm the installation is simple and you ll learn more about your vehicle, good luck buddy. Microimageonline.com and post pics when you are done, be good.

I am looking to add fog lights to my 08 sedan, I also want to add xenon tube lighting headlamps as well. I installed my own aftermarket headunit and speakers with amp and wiring. Would installing fog lights and headlamps be something that I could try to do myself? I would much rather do the work myself out of pride. Also, I see everyone recommend microimage. any photos of their light in use? And do they provide instructions for installation? Thanks guys!!

Hello guys nice to see people bumped my thread.
I went through this all thoroughly before purchase, bought garms new fog lights I believe the first set due to the old ones cracking too easy. (These new ones he offers come with a rubber clear cover though mine still cracked when they are on who notices?
Looks great if you want to see pictures let me know and I'll post my cars thread or just search My Yaris Life
