Hi guys, I am new to this forum. I own a 07 yaris (sedan). I havent had too many issues before this...but i need your help now.
When I drive, my engine sounds like its revving way higher than it is. My boyfriend says its more like a vibrating sound that gets higher as the speed gets higher. He says it doesnt matter what gear its in. He also says the sound ..sounds like its coming from the front wheel area. Its kind of scary, I feel like the engine will blow any second as I do alot of highway driving to and from work. When I go up to 120, the car sounds soooo loud its crazy. to me, it doesnt sound that bad when I am in residential and going like...40. but anything after that it starts going all crazy. Sorry im not good at explaining sounds or mechanical problems but if it sounds like something any of you have experienced advice would be super helpful!
Thanks, Jenny =)

Does the noise change with engine speed (R.P.M) or with vehicle speed? It almost sounds like a bad wheel bearing if I understand correctly. Hope this helps, and welcome:thumbup:

The noise changes with vehicle speed. If I put the car in neutral as it is moving, the sound remains the same!

Wheel bearing.

Is it a humming sound that gets loud on the highway? If so, bearing:)

Labor intensive, but the part should be cheap-ish.

Are they still the same style as the echo that need to be pressed out?
Jenny- If so, you will need access to a hydraulic press to get them in/out of the hub. Should only be one of them that's gone bad. Easiest way to check is with a stethescope on a hoist.

This may sound silly but: if someone were to DIY wheel bearing replacement and they didnt have access to a press - could you use some other method to get the bearings in/out? even if it's not the recommended way?

ie: lube up as much as you can and use blocks of wood + a vice and attempt to force the bearing back into the assembly that way?
