im ordering my HID kit tonight off of MI and im just curious as to whether i should get 6000k or 8000k.
can anyone confirm if this colour chart is accurate with the colors of the HID kits off of MI?
http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-xenon/colour-chart.php
(based off of this colour chart i want 8000k^^^)
the part where im confused on is im not sure exactly where my buddy got his hid kit from but this is apparently 6000k unless hes a compulsive liar/theres a huge difference with different brands:

I ask a CHP Officer and they said anything under to 8000k is ok. Anything over that is not just FYI

Get the 6000k. It will give you better visibility than the 8000k.

I got 6000k. 6000k is crystal white and 8000k is a bit of blueish. Also, 6000k visibility better than 8000k. Even though 8000k looks better for the incoming traffic, it dose not do much visibility on the road. Get a 6000k and 8000k on each side and compare it.
P.S when you install the HID, you need to adjust your head light a bit cuz the rays are too bright for incoming traffic.

i just talked to a couple buddies and my brother and ive come to the conclusion im going with 8000k for two main reasons,
1. looks way sexier in my opinion
2. even if the 6000k does give better visibility than 8000k, 8000k still gives a ton better visibility than the stock bulbs.
but you guys have helped a ton in helping me decide so thanks all! :)

A little off of the topic, but a quick question regarding HIDs/Projectors... do you have to use HID if you install projectors?

No, but your light output is gonna be horrible. It also depends if the projectors are designed for halogen or HIDs.

Looks are for car shows. You'll notice the horrid visibility of 8000K the very first time it rains. Guarantee it.
The point of HID is to get as close to natural light as possible, which hovers between 4100K and 5000K. Your 8000K blues and 12000K purples may look fantabulous in the parking lot but, when coupled with the fact that most HIDs on this site are installed in Yaris reflectors not designed anywhere near optimal capacity for the HID bulbs, they are form over function in the most severe sense and, in many cases, the light output is so scattered that the actual illumination is worse than stock, off the shelf halogens.
And I don't know about you, but when it comes to driving out in the country here in SE Georgia, I want my lights to work as efficiently as possible. Not look blue. Just some food for thought.

8000k have great visibility, and they have almost the same light output compared to a 6000k kit, i have 8000k on headlights and fog.

You'll be fine with 8000k. There's not much rain here in SoCal. Remember that the best visibility will be 3000k especially in rain.

6000 is the ONLY way to not have the cops on your @$$.
6K is White-White where 8000 is already in the purple-blue range, and you're gonna look wayyyyyyyyy different than the rest of traffic, and I'm not so sure that's your intention...
However, it's your choice....
look here for the color:

I had the 8k and changed the bulbs to 6K due to hasles with uncle john law complaining about headlamp modification legalities, but your mileage might be better

yeah thats possible, but someone in this thread who doesnt live too far from me said that anything under 8000k should be okay, (but then again it really depends on the cops mood that day)
lately, ive noticed that a LOT of people around my area have HID's installed, and from what i could tell about 80% were 6000k and the rest 20% were 8000k, so im going to take my chances
also on top of waiting for my HIDs to come in, im also waiting on eye lids, so after i install my HIDs ill put on those eye lids. and im assuming it might reduce the spray a little on the top?? :iono: so that might help, but if not ill still be taking my chances

That's fine with me. I was just providing a few points you might want to keep in mind. I personally wouldn't go higher than the 5000K that's in my car already. It is your car though, so I wish you the best in modifying it to your liking.

Color will differ between different bulb manufacturers. Two bulbs from two different manufacturers can have the same kelvin rating but still produce slightly different colors. I've seen 6000k bulbs that appear more white while others have more of a blue tint.

ahhhhh, so thats why my friends audi's hid's are 6000k but more of a blue color (as seen in original post)
