I have given credit to all orig authors, there is link to user profile from each entry in the book that was created by them. I have also gone through and tried to correct all spelling and grammar errors that M$ Word could find.

I am putting together the new version now. I just have to finish reading an "Acrobat How-to" guide I found the other day so I can attempt at creating:
Links to the site, and hopfully even a Clickable contents directory. any updates will be posted here.

Dont forget the Megan Header DIY as well.

12-18-2006, 01:28 PM
yes, thanks to all that have contributed. I have just finished creating all the "new" DIYs and have edited all the past ones to include a link to the orig thread. I however had to work off old files, and will have to run spell/grammar check on all the articles again... but oh well.
And I did figure out how to create the "Clickable" Table of Contents; so that will be included. I will also most likely put a "DIY link" page at the end of the article. And lastly I have edited the "welcome" page; edited size of pic, create a link to the registration page as well as a link to the forums.
If anyone have any ideas on what should be added/removed please let me know asap so I dont have to do it later

That is really nice man. It was very nice of you to take your time and make something so user friendly. I have been on car sites that have existed for over 10 years and they did not have info as organized. Its great that we already have a base to add to as more info becomes available.

just curious, but why not just do one stickied post, with internal forum links to the threads, would be easier to update, and would be easier for someone to quickly find the information they are looking for, unless they always keep an updated version of this PDF at the ready...and if they are away from their main computer...
just an idea, and heres a link to a sticky that i think does what i am suggesting fairly well, over on VWVortex.com http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=585949
not knocking your book, you did a nice job, but i think a well maintaind sticky here would be a wonderful suplement to the guide ;)
vodkalush
01-10-2007, 08:05 AM
I do like that, it would be easier for when you are in the forums looking for stuff.... I really like the "Category" view.
It be easy to modify the orig post to a category view style linkage and on the new updated version of the book I'll switch to a category still organization.
As far as the reason for the PDF, well its simple I hated having to print out guides from the forum page view (even in single post view) so the PDF makes it simple (for me atleast) to print, and i like that fact that its more of a "hard copy"
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll def be making changes to the first post.

Well no luck with finding my back-ups I've gone through 3 hard drives and a shit load of back-up dvds and usb drives... all with no success. sooo I'm gonna bite the bullet and rebuild it from scratch again....
so if anyone wants to help me take the DIY post and convert them into word docs, let me know (it's the longest part - running spell check and fixing obvious grammar mix-ups)
I'll keep you updated as I am once again actively working on the next DIY edition
ps
If my DIY thread is missing anything feel free to let me know (I will also be looking for new ones, but extras eyes never hurt)

Would anyone be opposed to me creating a standard layout for the DIY's and then simply shifting the content around to fit the standard? I would of course keep a link to the original thread and a link to the users profile atop the DIY in the manual...
I havent put together the layout yet, I'm trying the gauge the overall love or hate for the idea.

There is a little "C" clip that's holding the handle to the crank. Cut a strip of old t-shirt about a foot long and 2 inches wide. Grab the ends of the strip. Slide the strip behind the neck of the window handle and wiggle it back and forth until the C-clip pops out. Remove the window handle.
To re-install it, put the C-clip on the handle before you reinstall it to the crank. Then pop the handle back into the crank.

or get a $2 window crank tool at autozone and not worry about rippin up any clothes...and being able to do it right with the right tools...
what i do is put in a plastic panel tool and roll the window in the direction the same side the tool is on...it seems to roll the clip out if you can hold the tool good enough. the tool is thick enough to push the panel out of the way so u can see in there.

Can we have someone volunteer to create a new version with all of the new DIYs added? I would do it myself however I suck at hyperlinking within a pdf. If someone can take care of that part I can build the starting doc.

Here is a working version of it
http://docs4.chomikuj.pl/383085195,PL,0,0,Yarisworld-DIY-Manual-v3.pdf
Don't expect to get a huge DIY document. It is essentially a list of links back to a thread here. That being said, many of the threads are old, and any pictures may have been provided by a file sharing site and are now dead.

Is it just me or do you have to pay to download that pdf?
Anyways thanks for the help WeeYari. I had already looked into the thread you said, I was just looking for a way to have them offline so that I can take it on my laptop to the car. But I guess I can always do a quick manual myself from the threads.
Quick question though, is there a guide to tear down the A pilar? Where the front tweeter is? I bought a 2 way speaker combo with a tweeter, I'd like to know how to switch it with the stock one without breaking it
Thanks again!
