Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased an 01 Toyota echo. I have learned that this is really the yaris world wide and was trying to learn what I should do for the 100k service. All service has been done to the car except the timing belt. Does the timing belt need to be changed at 100k? I would think it would need to be changed. The other thing is the repair/service manual. I have seen
postings about it being available on the net, but is it better then the hayes/chiltons or is it the original manufacturer’s manual?

The next question I have is about my power locks. I have a button on the center console that locks and unlocks the car. When I bought the car I asked if it had a remote or ever came with one. I was told there was no wireless remote. If I have the Center button that locks and unlocks all the doors, does that mean I’m missing a remote and should get a replacement from Amazon instead of the dealer?

I appreciate your help.

The 1NZ-FE engine in your Echo has a timing chain, rather than a timing belt, so it good for a long time.

As for the remote, the Echo and the present Yaris have two separate options; Power locks/windows and remote keyless entry. Having power locks doesn't mean that your car has remote keyless, so chances are that you didn't get a remote, because the car didn't come with one. My 09, which I bought new came with power, but no keyless.
