I have a '09 Yaris sedan and want to adjust my idle speed. Is that impossible because of a computer the car runs off of? I just want a little more rpm at idle.

Thanks

You can adjust the idle screw on the throttle body . Its on the top and its uses a very small allen wrench to adjust it . Im pretty sure you want turn in clockwise to raise the idle rpm . Also you have to adjust with the engine off .

I looked myself for this screw and didn't find it. I did see a screw that was encased in glue or epoxy, that you couldn't get to though.

That's it, you need to get the epoxy off. Just make sure to adjust your idle when the car is OFF.

Can i ask what reason their is to adjust the idle speed or what would cause it to lower? Since it's epoxied in, I just wonder how it could happen and why you would want to change it.

Can somebody please post a picture of where ti is located? I can't for the life of me find it.

It's located here, although this member replaced his idle screw because he stripped his out I believe. The stock screw is recessed, behind some yellowed epoxy. It's in the same area though, hope this helps.

Clockwise or Counter-clockwise to raise the RPM? Thanks again for the help!

Oh that pic is at the wrong angle, just tip your monitor/laptop on the right side and you'll see exactly where it is

I found everything and successfully upped my rpm to ~800 + or - maybe. The sound sysytem seems to be liking it 1,000,000 times better.

I took pics of the whole thing so i'll get those up soon. Thanks to everybody that new what they were talking about!

It's "expoxied" simply so it wont move due to vibrations and it usually does not go out of adjustment.

However, since it is a mechanical adjustment, it can be prone to some wear that can throw it out of spec just like a standard cable actuated throttle.
So, keep in mind that even though it was set at the factory, it stiil may have to to be readjusted depending on conditions.

turn on your A/C

This probably only applies to stick shift Yaris...
I notice that when I turn the A/C on, the idle RPM goes up a little bit, and the throttle is much more responsive from idle than with the A/C off. I sometimes inadvertantly stall the engine, usually when I'm not using the A/C. All my other cars have idle at 800. Did Toyota set it at 600 for some reason? Like emission? Will my car fail emission test if I increase the idle to 800? Will CEL come on?

My Yaris if the idle gets too low the a/c stop cooling and if I put in neutral and accelerate it’s start cooling again. I’ll give a try in that screw to see if work better.
