just got my base dyno done the other day. this is a bone stock straight off the lot2010 Liftback. using 87 octane, 3000miles on the odm using factory havent changed yet oil. ordered AEM CAI, NST 10% pulleys (crank, water, alt). rear sway bar and SSK(irrevelant). ill do another dyno in a couple weeks when i get a chance. after the dyno, im switching to 93 octane and gonna change the oil to synthetic. then when my parts get here ill throw everything on.
here it is
I am amazed that i got that. i dont have the a/f chart but it was on the rich side

That's +7 bhp over the advertised 106, nice. What was your whp though?

im as surprised as you are. this IS my whp. rolled up on the rollers and watched him go thru the gears. he laughed when i told him how to take the trac contol off. brake brake(hold) ebrake off, on, off, on, brake brake... then realized that he had the ebake on anyways when he was on.. DUR...

That can't be whp, sorry. Just because it was on a dyno doesn't mean that's what the dyno was measuring. Not trying to rain on your parade, friend; the number just isn't possible on a stock Yaris with a 1.5L motor.

^ I cannot fathom that being whp either especially when the bhp is advertised at 106.
ilikerice, I would talk with your tech that performed the pulls for you. That really sounds incorrect. Either way, +7 over advertised bhp is a nice way to start off!

ill get another dyno done somewhere else before i start arguing. who knows. maybe his dyno isnt calibrated correctly. only other dyno i know of near me is 3 hours away... bummer..

I hear ya on the distance thing. If I wasn't planning on moving I would have to drive 6 hours one way to get to the closest one in NH. If you check there is a thread that I believe may even be stickied that would be able to show you the baseline for our cars. Did you have to pay anything or did you get a hook up?

u know i really dont wanna go by any dyno for the base line. ive come across that not all engines are the same and id like to see my personal base line. then see the results myself. im more of a hands on and like to see results first hand. as for paying.. yes.. i did have to pay, and i dont get hookups. i used to know another guy but they went out of buisness.. cool guy. big into chump car racing.. anywho.. ill try to schedule an appointment this friday. i got autox this sat though.

To OP: Find out what "correction factor" was used on the dyno if any. Adjusting the factor can raise or lower the whp on a dyno run....

What else does a wheel dyno read if its not whp?

Hey, I'd dyno a stock yaris. I put down 98whp.

Maybe it's a factory freak? It's totally possible, I've seen a few cars that have dyoned with more power than they should from stock factory numbers.

4th of 5th.. i think it was 5th though... i think he pegged the speedo

he was tuning a boosted cavalier just before he ran mine. i dont know much about dynanometers. but i thought it all measured the same forces..

Wouldn't that give you LESS hp?

Btw, just cause it says your power is at X, doesn't mean that dyno isn't calibrated properly. I've seen places fudge up some dyno numbers to make it look like their tune is epic.
Not sayin that this place is doing that, but i'm jus sayin.

Ahh good question didnt think about that. I did my pulls in 3rd.....

Well that explains it, no way you were in 3rd or 4th if you pegged the speedo. That explains the freakishly high #'s......

hmm, maybe it's about time i go do a dyno...what are some of the prices that you guys paid for it?

3 pulls $50......

what is this 3 pulls business? sorry, stupid question im sure. after doing a little research, i keep seeing 3 pulls for $75 locally.

Really? 16-20% better? I'd like to see a concrete example that you've "seen".

anyways, a "pull" is one run on a dynamometer at full throttle in one particular gear, measuring power and torque throughout the rpm range, up to redline.
Usually a few pulls are done to get a consistent or "best" result. Or, a tuner does a session of several runs while tuning the car for whatever the desired result is.
If I didn't get that quite right, please correct the details.

The only dyno in New England runs you 250 an hour. You get as many pulls as you want, but you still pay the minimum 250.

wait. so a different gear ratio will give you different numbers? ill ask that guy later after work today. if thats the case, ill see if he will throw in an extra dyno for me in 3rd gear and see the difference. but ill still try to hit up jacksonville this friday if i can make an appointment to get another dyno comparisson..

Manuals are usually tested in 4th gear (one the 1:1 ratio) and autos in 3rd gear (usually 1:1 ratio)
quote posted on a ford forum.. but im also seeing some who posted 3rd, but again, cant believe everything u read on the internet..
here is a link to a guy who did a review on the dyno dynamics machine who compared to others.

Thats so complicated. Just have ur own baseline. Then dyno it the same way every time you mod your car. Dyno numbers don't mean ish when you're on the track.

Even if people track their car many times people like to know what they truly are getting for their hard earned dollar when buying performance parts. Plus it is always nice to be able to tell someone an honest number if asked rather than just saying, "Dyno numbers don't mean ish when you're on the track." Also as a point of reference the LTA (Loring Time Association) here requires you to provide at least something so that they can gauge certain requirements at their track events.
