I see a lot of universal shift knobs for automatics, but how do I know for sure that it will fit? Is there some kind of measurement I should be looking for that should be listed on the seller's site?

I was looking at this one but I don't see any specifics listed:

Many of the universal ones include a bunch of plastic sleeves of various inner diameters. The one in your link looks like it includes 4. The key for a Yaris auto is that it has one for M8.

what is M8?

The actual threading for the shift knob is M8x1.25. The M8 means 8mm.

The link for a universal fit shift knob shows sleeves in the photo. The description indicates it attaches with set screws.

^ Yup, I know that mine is a manual however it came with allen set screws. I have had plenty of cars in the past with A/T that I used universal knows with set screws. I only had trouble with one wiggling lose, but that was back in the early 90's and a 5 dollar deal.
