coolant flush/ water pump

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone ever used the flush and fill on their car? I've used it on steel radiators but I can't recall if their is a warning about not using it on aluminum radiators and blocks?

Usually I fill it with the flush and fill, take it for a 14 min drive, let it cool down. Drain fill it with distilled water, drain it then proceed with the antifreeze and the additives. I saw in another post the toyota coolant is a high life/mileage type similar to the peak extended. I want to avoid build up and avoid water pump failure. Any idea when the pumps go?

Pumps go at 30K miles LOL, but I'm quite sure you past that with an '01

Mine went out at around 19k miles. Starting to leak every so slightly again so i just top it off once a month now.

wow that's insane that they let it go, it appears to be a problem with the 05-08 yaris. Since I have 100k on the original (echo) pump and I saw others are getting around 170k, I think I won't fret that much.

103k. So I still plan on doing the flush and replacing the stat. I'm looking into high flow stats right now but all the ones I have seen in the past dont have the bleeder and its tough to drill a small hole in those high flow ones. Maybe foreign cars are different. I'll create a new post on thermostats when I plan on doing it probably some time next weekend.

Just stick with an OEM thermostat.

lol aren't you on your third pump already?

Mine still looks like the OEM one at 100,000 km...:thumbup: we'll see how long it lasts. I've done 4 so far at work and mileage ranged from 60k - 140k km

yea i have the entire service history on the car. It was all done by the dealer and there is nothing about a water pump failure. I think the reason for the bad taste is whatever changed in the 05-08 is what did it. I don't know if people outside of those production dates have issues. Personally I'm used to water pumps only lasting 110k-140k.

I personally think it's only a seal failure, because there was no play and no abnormal noise coming from it. The only evidence was the pink line being left in the hood from coolant spaying off the belt.

I've done 3 that had play and caused a belt squeal and one that just had coolant leaking from the hole.

I have 27k on mine and every now and then when I open the hood I get a faint wiff of coolant. Could it be the beginning of the end for my water pump? Dealer say's it's nothing. What do you think?

Could be nothing. The tell tale sign is a pink line in the hood, directly over the belt.

Anybody know where the engine drain block is to drain coolant of a yaris 2007? All I am seeing is the drain cock for the radiator. I looked up on the yaris service manual, in the diagram it shows just right of the dipstick, I dont see it. I want to drain my coolant before winter hits, I have 99000'ish miles on it.

The block tap is behind the exhaust manifold.

How can I access the engine drain block plug? Under the vehicle or just under the hood? What does it look like? Thanks!

From underneath, backside of block, in the middle, above oil pan gasket surface ...it's the only thing that looks anything like a drain port.

Thanks a lot! That work out great, however I dont think it was worth the time and effort to drain coolant of the engine drain block, it only spitted out 1/4 cup. That drain block was a tight space. I got a half bucket of coolant of the radiator drain cock, which I will just only do next time.

I've never drained mine but 1/4 cup sure doesn't sound right...was the cap removed?

^ no, that sounds about right. You're only draining the remnant from the back of the block because of the rearward tilt of the motor.

just got the repair manual, I'm going to look up the process for draining. hopefully there are bleeders.
