Good place to buy TOOLs

In the market for some tools for future DIYs, was looking and shopping around, seem like everywhere got tools, sears, homedepot, lowes, harbor freight, pepboys.

Craftsman from sears look very sturdy and sleek.

Sear Ftw imo , really cant beat the price and they also replace any hand tool that happens to break no questions asked. My craftsman tool boxes are all full of craftsman tools !

Depends alot on your pockets and how deep they are. I have many for bikes and cars from different suppliers. Started with Snap-Ons and built from there as they are priced high. Sears are reliable with warranty but there is always a specific tool they don't have or also costs alot. Hence the need to diversify and shop other places. Pretty much I'll look at Sears or Northern Tool. For the Yaris that should cover you.

SEARS is the best place man, one the craftsman tools are a life time guarantee what more can you ask for

Most of mine are Sears also, and yes I like the convenience of just hittin up the local Sears, but if you use tools from Snap on or such for a long time, you'll find the S.O. are more comfortable to use.

find the tools you want and then buy them online. So much cheaper.

I buy a lot of Craftsman tools online (Amazon) and if they do break, which sometimes they do when you are trying to take a Crank bolt off for example. I just bring it so sears and replace it with a new one.

Snap On are by far the best tools. Expensive as hell though.


Anyways. if you are starting out. you should definitely check out this Craftsman set.

Snap on is really expensive for me n it's more like for the pro or who will use it everyday for a living. I'll go for a craftsman set. Since I heard good warranty n how easy it is to get a replacement from sears.

although cheap....theyre cheap. they are uncomfortable. they break and dont quite fit right.

another place is on local sites like craig's list or we have here southeasttexas.com. it's a site to SETX only, and SWLA. but there's tons of crap on there


and as a professional mechanic, i buy a ton of my tools broken on ebay and trade them in to the trucks. or, in most cases, i use them until they really break then trade them in. pawn shops are another good place.

but, ebay is the best.

I turn wrenches for a living and at my house I have all harbor freight tools except for a nice snap on ratchet. you can buy 10x the tools at harbor freight and they all have a lifetime warranty. I bought a set of long allen sockets and have yet to break or twist the smaller sizes you just cant beat the prices I'd much rather have more tools than a few craftsman.

Didn't think harbor freight offered a lifetime warranty as well? If so then go with them or craftsman. Snap On/MAC does too, but when do you have a snap on near you or a truck?

I can say snapons are more comfortable to use and are stronger and better, and I wrench in a garage maybe 5 days out of the week, but we'll always go to the regular craftsman or HF tools first, snapons are in a worst case scenario thing. Just because they are snapon doesn't mean they don't break. I even blew tools in half before.

Craftsman, for sure. I've tried various brands of hand tools, and you can't beat Craftsman for quality and price.

well....again it depends on even the craftsman. you have the cheap crap...and then you have the nice stuff. buy just a regular socket, round something off...then spend twice as much on the better socket and you'll pull off even the rounded nut. it's called flank-drive...and the reason snap-on tools are so expensive is because 20 years ago they had flank drive...guess what, patent's up. so now everyone's got it. but what does snapon have now? well, it's an updated version of flank-drive...and it's still better than craftsman's. so, when you do decide that you need the better toos cuz you keep roundin stuff...step it up.


i'm a mechanic. i dont have time to keep running to HF every time a tool breaks. i may have to wait a few days but mac/matco/snapon/cornwell comes to me. and with as much as i use it...HF wont come near to holding up...i tried.

i use a 10mm socket like 600 times a day. tinkerin in my garrage i'm lucky to hit that in a month. so it's really up to you. how much do you use it? my tools are my life...i'm not skimpin out to save a few bux on my life here. they're my tools i use on a daily basis. they're expensive, but i've almost never had to turn stuff in when used properly...it's always been using a 1/2" ratchet on a 3/8 socket....or using a chormie socket with an impact gun or something....



BTW...i have craftsman 1/4" stuff cuz it's light duty and i can't see spending 500 on a set of deeps, semi-deeps, shallows, and a ratchet from snapon. i use matco 3/8" stuff...and i have snapon impact stuff......and i use mostly snapon 1/2" stuff. all my power tools are a form of ingersol/rand (mostly matco, but some is actual I/R stuff) and i do have a few bleeders/vacuum tools that are HF. they work awesome...specially the brake bleeder. use it for all kinds of stuff.

go check estate sales and garage sales for tools..... before im flamed i buy lots of things from estate sales since you get an awesome price on premium quality items that some old man took great care of. Thats also a great place to go scope out a cheap reliable vehicle. Especially if your gonna grab a car for the kiddo.

Estate sales are listed in newspapers usually, but I am sure they have online listings as well.
