Picked up my 11th set of wheels for the Yaris this past weekend - a set of 1986 CRX OEM wheels for $50.. My plans are to polish them and rock them without centercaps.

Also picked up a nice set of 4 175/65/14 tires for $40.

Wheels are 14x5 +40 offset. Planning to run some spacers but nothing too crazy.

Those are pretty wild. I don't think I've ever seen asymmetrical wheels, other than the teddy bear ones.

These were OEM on some 85-86 CRX's. They are commonly referred to as "CRX Phone Dials" or "CRX Buttons." Pretty rare to find a set, just happened to be on Craigslist and the guy delivered them to me. (he was over 2 hours away) :w00t:

They are definitely a weird pattern. It had to grow on me a little, but they're unique and will look good all shined up!

smooth over the Honda logo with some body filler then hit them with chrome paint (it always looks like polished aluminum more than chrome anyway), it would look 98347598734957834X better than no centers

Pretty cool actually. Yup, need centre caps to look right.

^ Lol Tim, I was thinking about that this morning.

Not sure I'm even polishing these anymore, may just sandblast and paint. Loving the silver on Meteorite with this style wheel.

Threw these on last night to cruise around on for a few weeks. LOVE them. 17mm of spacers in the rear, 5mm in the front. These DO need spacers to clear the front calipers.

Yeah I'll figure something out. I was thinking black centers to produce an extra "hole" on the wheel - but may just sand and go silver.

17mm of spacers in the rear

How did you do that? Combination of hub and wheel spacers? If it's just wheel spacers, I don't know how you managed to get long enough bolts in there.

My 10mm ichiba spacers came with bolts long enough to space out ~ 15 to 20mm. There was not enough room inside the rear drum to worm them through the stud holes.

Balanced and re-sprayed my new $50 wheels this morning, figured I'd give her a bath and take a few pics.

I like them. Nice job. Black centre caps would look good. What tyres are you running on those little guys?

175/65/14's. And I painted the centercaps black and threw them on.. didn't like them so I popped them back off.

They look really heavy. How bad are they?

But they look retro cool!!

I once hand polished a set of VW "phone dial" wheels with a friend. It took us two solid days but they came out with a MIRROR finish.

Those wheels are really nifty. Keep us posted!

They're not too heavy, being only 14" x 5". I'd guess maybe 13 or 14 lbs each?

Oh wow.. I'm using air tools and it's still taking forever - I can't imagine hand polishing.

Broke the air tool I was using to polish. So I just decided to scrap the polishing project for now. Will be sanding/repainting each wheel the stock color silver for now.

You should do a colour in the center and leave the outer lip polished. It would be a lot less work, and you can do it with the wheel still mounted on the rims... and it would look cool.

Still thinking about things like that.. may "time attack" them or just leave them plain silver even.. will see. =)

Just bought some fatter (and a little taller) tires for these. 185/65/14's to replace the 175/65/14's currently on them. Will be refinishing the wheels over the winter and slapping the new tires on before spring.

When you put the tires on, try and align them symetrically so the lettering lines up with the holes in the rim.

Are you going to colour the lettering in too for that retro look?

^ Now there's a cool idea - I'll have to work up a few Photoshops. =)

It's funny: they look better on the Yaris than on the CRX...

The Yaris body seems to beg for "aero-style" wheels. I was looking for the Ronal fins or some other flat faced wheel before I got my Scion 7-spokes.

Have you ever seen the Yaris on ATS Cups? Hottest Yaris wheels EVER.
