Hello all,

So I contacted my local dealer and asked if I could bring my own oil, and they can perform the oil change. They said yes, so hopefully I will be saving a couple bucks. Now my question is, How much oil should I buy? I think I read on here the Yaris takes about 3.5 quarts for an oil change, so should I buy 4 quarts?

I would buy 5 quarts, give them 4. The 5th one you keep in case you need to top off or there was not enough for the change. 4 should be plenty enough though.

Buy 5 quarts in the big jug, then they will leave the rest and put it on the floor or in the trunk of your car. Saves money and lets you KNOW you are getting good oil.

If you're going to buy the oil, why not change it yourself??? There are threads on oil change and it's easy to do.

why?

No Toyota dealership uses "Toyota" oil. They use whatever bulk oil they can buy that's cheap. For example, where I work, we use Catrol GTX 5w-30.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think ill get the big jug of it because I will feel better knowing they used my oil and not the "mystery" oil.

Ya, that big jug is a good idea. It does force them to use it and give you what is left.

buy what you want but who's to say they really used your oil, also, being you gave them the big jug of oil do you really trust them to put the correct amount of oil in your engine?

Here is what our manual stateshttp://www.yarisworld.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2422&d=1165075522

Sometimes is cheaper to buy the 5 quart jug rather than 4 bottles.

Do not save money on engine oil. I used Castrol full synthetic and at 68K it does not use a molecule of oil. At 60K I changed to Edge and now change at 12K instead of 15K and I noticed a difference in power....honest!

What's wrong with Castrol GTX? It's all I've ever used in all my cars beginning with my 1979 Celica. In total, I've driven about 567,000 miles in 5 cars using GTX and never had an oil related problem with any of them...

I buy four quarts ( i do my oil changes myself), i pour a little into the filter and 3 1/2 quarts for the rest. Any oil left over I save in my shed so over time after 6th or 7th oil change I have enough to give myself a "free" oil change lol, i used mobil 1 for a bit then i switched to royal purple 20k miles ago, no engine problems at all (using 93 octane) :) almost 70k miles total on car

3 quarts and 22 ounces brings it to the FULL mark on ours . Let car sit for about 1/2 hour to check level . Add a few ounces if needed .

Guy might have put your supposedly good oil in his own car and just pumped bulk oil into your car..
