Hi Guys. I just bought a Toyota Vitz, Japanese import. Anyway, I was offered a standard stereo to replace the console inbuilt unit, but I preferred the inbuilt unit; I feel it leaves the interior with a nicer finish and deters theft.

The problem is twofold:
1) The Japanese have this weird FM range; I would have to install an FM band expander to be able to tune to local stations.
2) The CD player only plays standard CDs - no mp3/wma etc..

I was hoping to replace the stereo with another inbuilt unit. I searched around on ebay and there are a number of replacements I can buy.

My questions are;
1) I seem to find only Yaris stereos - although the shape seems identical externally to my Vitz model, would I encounter any problems installing one of these in my car?

2) Are there any security codes I need to be aware of to replace the unit? What sort of issues can I encounter?

Thanks for your feedback.

Wow, a two year bump.

Looking at the Japanese and European wiring diagrams, you should be able to swap in a 2006-2011 European market Yaris OEM radio without an issue (they use the same connectors with the same pinouts). I don't believe that the radios used in the Yaris had security codes.
